Full Job Description
Position Overview

The Senior Manager - Insights Engineering is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of the applications that put Subway data in the hands of its users - interactive web dashboards and mobile experiences used by franchisees, restaurant operators, and corporate teams. This is an engineering leadership role rather than a traditional analytics or BI role: the Senior Manager runs a team of front-end, full-stack, and mobile engineers building React JS web applications and React Native mobile apps on top of Subway's data platform and APIs. Operating within the Technology organization, the Senior Manager partners closely with Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Data Product, UX, and business stakeholders to ship performant, intuitive, production-grade data products at scale.

Responsibilities

Own the engineering roadmap for analytics applications - React JS web dashboards and React Native mobile apps; translate data product priorities into scoped, shippable releases; drive front-end architecture, component design, and a reusable design system; balance delivery speed with long-term maintainability.

Lead front-end and full-stack development in React and TypeScript, including state management (Redux, React Query), data visualization and charting libraries (D3, Recharts, Highcharts), and responsive, accessible UI patterns; ensure consistency and feature parity across web and mobile.

Own mobile delivery on React Native - iOS and Android builds, app store release and compliance processes, push notifications, offline and low-bandwidth behavior suited to restaurant environments, and device and OS compatibility testing.

Partner with Data and Platform Engineering on the API and data contracts behind the applications - REST and GraphQL service design, semantic layer and warehouse query patterns, aggregation and caching strategies - to keep dashboards fast at enterprise data volumes.

Own engineering quality and delivery practices: CI/CD, automated testing (Jest, React Testing Library, Detox), code review standards, observability and performance budgets, and secure handling of franchise, restaurant, and guest data.

Lead and develop a team of front-end, full-stack, and mobile engineers; set clear goals, performance expectations, and delivery standards; support hiring, onboarding, and capability building; foster a culture of ownership, craft, and engineering rigor.

Define and track product and engineering KPIs including adoption and active users, screen and dashboard load performance, crash-free sessions, and release frequency; partner with UX and Analytics on instrumentation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Strong experience building and shipping production web and mobile applications, ideally data-heavy or dashboard-centric products.

Deep hands-on expertise in React JS and React Native, with modern JavaScript and TypeScript.

Strong knowledge of data visualization and charting libraries, and of designing usable interfaces over large, complex datasets.

Working knowledge of SQL and of consuming analytics data through APIs, semantic layers, or cloud data warehouses.

Experience designing and integrating REST and/or GraphQL APIs, including authentication, authorization, and caching.

Strong engineering fundamentals across testing, CI/CD, performance optimization, and application security.

Ability to bridge technical and business needs effectively; strong leadership, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

8-10 years of software engineering experience, with significant depth in front-end and/or mobile development.

2-4 years of experience leading engineering teams or squads.

Experience partnering with data, product, and UX teams to deliver analytics, reporting, or data product experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree (Master's) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Experience deploying applications on cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) integrated with platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or BigQuery.

Experience with mobile release engineering at scale - Fastlane, over-the-air updates, app store compliance, and mobile analytics and crash reporting.

Experience with embedded or headless BI and visualization SDKs (Power BI Embedded, Tableau Embedding, Looker, Superset) alongside custom React front ends.

Familiarity with design systems, accessibility standards (WCAG), and collaboration with UX research; experience in QSR, Retail, CPG, or Franchise environments, including franchisee- or store-facing applications.
