Full Job Description
The Principal Software Engineer, Agentic Software Engineering sets multi-year technical vision for agentic software engineering practices across the enterprise, operating as the most senior individual contributor on the technical ladder. In this role you will have ultimate technical authority on the most consequential architecture and engineering decisions, represents Bio-Rad's engineering function in external and executive-level forums, and mentors Sr. Staff engineers.

  • Supports execution of the technical vision for agentic software engineering practices across the enterprise.
  • Serve as the final technical authority on the most consequential architecture and engineering decisions company-wide.
  • Represent Bio-Rad's engineering function in external forums, industry standards bodies, and executive-level discussions.
  • Drive enterprise-wide technical strategy spanning multiple business units and domains.
  • Mentor Sr. Staff engineers and contribute to the most senior technical leadership development across the organization.

What You Bring:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (Master's preferred).
  • Work Experience: 12+ years of software engineering experience, including enterprise-wide technical vision-setting, and 4+ years of hands-on experience with agentic or AI-assisted development tools, including setting enterprise-wide standards.
  • Agentic and AI-assisted software engineering, including setting enterprise-wide standards for agent orchestration and oversight.
  • Cross-business-unit technical strategy and multi-year roadmap setting.
  • Mentoring Sr. Staff engineers and external representation through industry standards, conferences, or publications.
  • Preferred: Experience in the clinical diagnostics or life sciences industry, building AI-enabled products within a regulated environment.
  • Preferred: Experience building multi-omics capable systems (e.g., genomics, proteomics, or related omics data platforms).

Location: This position must be based in Irvine, CA and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $179,400 to $246,600 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
