Job Description Summary
The Specialist Software Engineer designs, develops, and modernizes web and cloud-based solutions that support the organization's digital strategy. This role provides technical leadership, contributes to architecture and platform decisions, and delivers scalable, secure, and reliable enterprise solutions in an agile environment.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and modernize applications, including transformation of legacy systems into cloud-native solutions.
  • Lead architecture, technical design, and implementation of enterprise applications and services.
  • Own the technical roadmap, stability, performance, and continuous improvement of assigned systems.
  • Develop, test, implement, and support software solutions using approved technologies and development frameworks.
  • Lead production support activities, incident resolution, root cause analysis, and service reliability initiatives.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment processes, and infrastructure automation.
  • Collaborate with business partners, product owners, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Establish and promote development, architecture, and security best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering teams and offshore/vendor resources.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology solutions considering business requirements, cost, scalability, security, and operational impact.
  • Prepare technical presentations and lead design reviews, architecture discussions, and development meetings.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Ten years of experience developing applications using Java or .NET technologies.
  • Strong experience designing and developing microservices and REST-based APIs.
  • Five years of experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure.
  • Five years of experience with database design, development, and data modeling using relational and/or NoSQL technologies.
  • Five years of experience with integration frameworks, messaging platforms, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control, automated testing, and deployment processes.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies.
  • Experience with scripting and automation technologies.
  • Knowledge of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, and modern development practices.
  • Experience with the following technologies as applicable to the role:
    • Programming Languages: Java, JEE, Spring Framework (Boot), JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL
    • Cloud Technologies: AWS, Cloud-Native & Microservices Architecture.
    • Databases: PostgreSQL, RDBMS, Data Modeling, Query Optimization
    • Integration & Messaging Tools: REST APIs, Spring Integration, Apache Camel, JWT, SAML, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SSO, Okta
    • CI/CD & DevOps Tools: Git, GitHub, Bitbucket, Maven, Jenkins, Harness, Docker, Kubernetes/ECS, Terraform, CI/CD Pipelines, Containerization.
    • Front-End Frameworks: Angular, AngularJS, TypeScript, Nodejs, NPM, NestJS, HTML5, CSS3, Responsive Web Applications
    • AI & Developer Productivity Tools: GitHub Copilot, AWS Kiro, AI-Assisted Coding, Spec-Driven Development, AI-Based Test Generation, Prompt Engineering.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading enterprise application modernization, cloud migration, or platform transformation initiatives.
  • Experience serving as a technical lead, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering best practices.

  • Experience adopting AI-assisted software development and developer productivity tools.
  • Relevant cloud, architecture, or platform certifications (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Java, or equivalent).
  • Experience in Insurance, Retirement, Wealth Management, Financial Services, or other regulated industries.


Working Conditions

Compensation

The Salary for this position generally ranges between $135,000 - $160,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.

Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company's discretion.

This is a hybrid position requiring three days in office per week in one of our hub locations (Philadelphia, PA; Cedar Rapids, IA; Denver, CO). Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
