Job Summary
This role contributes to Starbucks' success by delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality technologies
that support the Starbucks Engineering Platform. As an Engineer II, you will collaborate with platform
engineering teams to build, deliver, and operate solutions. You will apply your technical skills to solve
problems, contribute to platform capabilities, and support the continuous improvement of engineering
systems. All work aligns with Starbucks' guiding principles.
Key Responsibilities
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to team members and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners across engineering and product teams.
• Support development teams by troubleshooting and resolving issues in a timely manner.
• Contribute to the design and maintenance of build and release processes.
• Assist in working with technology vendors and internal partners to meet objectives.
• Research technologies and contribute to recommendations for tools and practices.
• Help ensure application and infrastructure solutions are stable, secure, and compliant.
• Apply Information Security principles in the development and operation of systems.
• Participate in operational support and contribute to automation efforts.
• Develop and maintain telemetry and monitoring to support system reliability.
• Maintain system configurations and follow secure development practices.
• Adhere to company policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI).
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 2-5 years of professional software development experience.
Technical Proficiency
• Experience working on platform engineering or product development teams.
• Foundational understanding of application architecture, infrastructure, and security principles.
• Ability to learn and apply cloud-based technologies (e.g., managed data services, eventing,
secrets management).
• Experience with AWS or Azure cloud computing platforms.
• Hands-on coding skills and ability to contribute to code reviews (Golang or similar languages
preferred).
• Familiarity with:
o System architecture and design concepts
o Data storage technologies (Postgres, DynamoDB, Cassandra)
o Platform services and cloud-native patterns
o Monitoring and operational practices
o Exposure to CI/CD and infrastructure tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS
CodeBuild/CodePipeline, ArgoCD, Datadog).
o Proficiency in Linux, containers, cloud networking, and troubleshooting.
Domain Proficiency
• Developing understanding of cloud platforms, APIs, and system interactions.
• Awareness of business context and how technical solutions support outcomes.
• Contribute to platform improvements and operational practices.
• Participate in Agile development and continuous delivery processes.
Interpersonal Skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to manage assigned tasks and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow technical and professional skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• 2+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• Experience with one or more programming languages (Java, Python, Go, etc.).
• Exposure to distributed systems or client-server architectures.
• Experience debugging and troubleshooting applications.
• Familiarity with basic security or compliance concepts (SOX, PCI, etc.).
• Exposure to production support or on-call environments is a plus.
• Foundational knowledge of networking and databases.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role.
