Full Job Description

What you’ll be doing

As the Service Manager, Security Automation within the Threat Detection & Response team, you will lead the evolution of security automation as a managed capability across CIBC’s Cyber Delivery and Operations functions. This role is focused on identifying and delivering automation and AI capabilities safely, consistently, and with the right level of governance. You will help shape how opportunities are identified, assessed, prioritized, implemented, and maintained across cyber operations. This includes ensuring automation requirements are clearly defined, risks are understood, and mitigations are implemented by leveraging appropriate controls built into automated detection and response processes before they are operationalized. You will work with SOC, Security Engineering, Data Leakage Prevention, Threat Hunting, Data Security, and related investigations teams to expand automation in a way that improves operational effectiveness while reducing the risk of disruption, unintended action, or security control failure.

At CIBC, we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement, where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Build a structured automation service: Define and mature the operating model for cyber security automation, including intake, prioritization, backlog management, lifecycle ownership, and service reporting.
  • Translate business needs into clear requirements: Work with stakeholders to document business requirements, acceptance criteria, risks, dependencies, and control expectations for use cases that enhance cyber security posture.
  • Prioritize based on risk and value: Assess automation opportunities based on operational impact, risk reduction, complexity, and alignment to cyber priorities.
  • Strengthen control design: Ensure automated actions include adequate safeguards, such as approvals, exception handling, monitoring, auditability, rollback considerations, and human oversight where appropriate.
  • Advocate safe AI adoption: Help evaluate AI enabled automation opportunities to ensure they are practical, controlled, explainable, and aligned to operational accountability.
  • Partner across cyber teams: Collaborate with SOC operations, Security Engineering, DLP, Threat Hunting, Data Security, and investigative teams to identify where automation can improve consistency, speed, and quality of outcomes.
  • Manage delivery and lifecycle: Oversee the automation backlog from idea through implementation, operational readiness, performance review, and retirement where needed.
  • Communicate service value: Provide clear updates to stakeholders on automation demand, delivery progress, benefits, risks, and service maturity.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in Information Security, Cyber Operations, Security Automation, or Technology Service Management within a large enterprise environment. You have worked with one or more areas such as SOC operations, incident response, SIEM, SOAR, case management, DLP, threat hunting, data security, or security engineering. You understand cyber operations. You know how security teams detect, investigate, respond to, and manage threats, and you understand where automation can improve outcomes when applied carefully.
  • You are risk minded. You recognize that automation can create business impact if poorly designed, and you know how to balance speed, efficiency, control, and accountability.
  • You bring structure to complex work. You are comfortable managing demand, organizing backlogs, clarifying priorities, and helping teams move from ideas to practical delivery.
  • You can connect business and technical teams. You are able to translate operational needs into clear requirements and communicate technical risks in a way stakeholders can understand.
  • You are digitally savvy. You are interested in automation, AI, analytics, and emerging technologies, and you focus on practical adoption measured through tangible metrics rather than technology for its own sake.
  • Your influence makes an impact. You build trusted relationships, guide discussions, and help teams align on priorities, risks, and outcomes.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and live our values: trust, teamwork, and accountability.
