What You’ll Be Doing

What You’ll Be Doing

As Director, Wealth Solutions, you will provide strategic investment leadership and research guidance on fund investments to CIBC Wood Gundy Investment Advisors and their clients.  You will serve as a subject matter expert on alternative investments, partnering with team members to contribute to a range of publications, including the firm’s recommended lists. You will conduct research across the Canadian investment fund universe, using both quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify candidates for inclusion.

Drawing on your experience supporting investment advisors, you will also play an important role in strengthening advisor product knowledge and supporting business activity across areas such as portfolio construction, Know Your Product obligations, and client proposal development. In addition, you will support the creation, maintenance, and periodic review of model portfolios to ensure alignment with current market conditions and best practices, helping advisors deliver diversified, risk-appropriate investment solutions for clients. This role also includes providing recommendations to senior executives regarding advisor access to various products and maintaining, updating, and enforcing the rules established by the Product Review Committee.

As one of the firm’s principal points of contact for fund companies seeking access to CIBC Wood Gundy, you will act as a strong ambassador for the organization. You will represent CIBC Private Wealth on various committees and may lead strategic initiatives spanning multiple lines of business. In this role, you will interact regularly with senior management and peers both within and outside Private Wealth and Wood Gundy. You will also work with all levels of staff, including the Executive Team and senior management across multiple lines of business.

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $110,000 to $150,00.

The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Product and Investment knowledge- At least 10 years of investment experience and extensive product knowledge of alternative investments, GICs, and the broader investment fund industry.  You can demonstrate experience constructing, managing, and reviewing model portfolios across a range of client segments.
  • Advisor Support and Business Engagement-Demonstrate the value and expertise of the Investment Strategy Group to investment advisors through branch meetings, conference calls, and CIBC Wood Gundy-led conferences.  Respond to ad hoc requests from investment advisors, providing timely, accurate, and thoughtful guidance. 
  • Strategic Leadership and Representation-Contribute to the leadership, vision, and strategic direction of the Investment Strategy Group, ensuring alignment with broader organizational objectives.  Serve as a senior representative of CIBC Wood Gundy in internal and external meetings, committees, and industry forums. 
  • Product Governance and Committee Oversight- Present to the Product Review Committee and provide strategic recommendations regarding new fund company relationships and shelf concentration.  Support the governance, control, and oversight of the CIBC Wood Gundy product shelf, ensuring compliance with Product Review Committee standards and requirements. Maintain and enforce the rules, guidelines, and decisions established by the Product Review Committee.  Provide senior executive recommendations regarding advisor access to investment products.
  • Investment Research and Portfolio Construction- Construct, maintain, and review investable model portfolios in accordance with the firm’s investment philosophy, regulatory requirements, and client objectives.  Contribute to the development, distribution, and ongoing optimization of the firm’s recommended lists.  Continuously enhance the investment fund research methodology, including screening, evaluation, and selection processes for recommended lists and related reports.  Prepare investment fund ideas, commentary, and reports for various CIBC publications, and participate in the peer review process.

Who You Are

  • You have an Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. CFA and/or MBA preferred; CAIA is considered an asset.
  • You haveexperience as a Registered Portfolio Manager or currently in progress is preferred.  You have direct experience working as an active money manager with fixed- income experience within the wealth management industry as an asset. 
  • You understandthat success is in the details. You have strong technical skills in Microsoft Office Applications including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as various other office equipment.  You have advanced proficiency with investment research tools and platforms, such as Morningstar Direct/AWS, Bloomberg, and other industry software.
  • You have a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and delivering results in a complex, fast-paced environment and demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic initiatives at the executive level.
  • You have exemplary communication skills both written and spoken, with a creative mind, and experience writing and dealing with financial professionals.  You enjoy working in a collaborative team environment focused on supporting the growth of our Wood Gundy Investment Advisors.
