hybrid work arrangement based out of Alberta. On average, this means
3-4 day(s) on-site per week at our downlown location either in Calgary/Edmonton. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.
As ATB's Senior Trade Finance Specialist, you will report to the Managing Director of Trade Finance. You will act as a key technical expert and driver for the execution of Letters of Credit, Guarantees, and our expanded suite of trade solutions. In this role, you will work closely with Relationship Managers and clients to execute advanced and complex transaction structuring, have experience with digital trade finance platforms, and support the rollout of expanded offerings like Supply Chain Financing and Documentary Collection, all while keeping a sharp eye on comprehensive risk mitigation.
Accountabilities- Transaction Execution & Advanced Structuring: Serve as a core technical expert to structure, review, and negotiate complex Letters of Credit (LC) issuance, transfers, amendments, and documentation review. Maintain relationships with partners and with correspondent financial institutions.
- Product Delivery & Support: Support the expansion and client delivery of specialized trade products, including Supply Chain Financing (SCF) programs, receivables discounting, and Documentary Collection.
- Trade Finance Platform Utilization: Master and champion ATB's internal and external trade finance platforms, ensuring seamless client onboarding, efficient transactional workflows, and a digitized customer experience.
- Risk Mitigation & Compliance: Analyze and apply critical risk mitigation frameworks to individual transactions and programs, managing credit, performance, sovereign, AML/sanctions, and operational risks in strict accordance with compliance policies.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner directly with corporate sales teams, relationship managers, and internal product groups to provide subject matter expertise and evaluate client trade needs.
- Training & Capability Building: Help build ATB's overall capability by coaching, training, and creating educational resources for internal team members on international trade finance mechanics and system platforms.
- Market Awareness: Maintain an advanced knowledge of International Trade trends, regulatory shifts, and ICC rules to ensure ATB remains competitive and compliant.
Skills, Experience & Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, International Trade, or a related field.
- Minimum 4-6 years of hands-on experience in Trade Finance or Transaction Banking.
- Proven technical proficiency in structuring Letters of Credit and utilizing modern digital trade finance platforms.
- Strong foundational understanding of Supply Chain Finance structures and Documentary Collections.
- Deep knowledge of ISP Rules and UCP 600; a CDCS (Certified Documentary Credit Specialist) designation is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated analytical skills with an ability to evaluate complex corporate trade flows and apply sound risk mitigation techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven track record of working collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving abilities and a focus on operational excellence.
