As the Senior Manager / Manager in Global Risk Management - Corporate Credit Diversified, you will be responsible for managing credit adjudication activities for a portfolio of corporate customers spanning a wide range of industries (consumer and industrials in Canada and Europe, Private Equity transactions, Leveraged Finance structures etc.) with exposure to significant deal flow that is diverse in terms of structures and risks. Through collaboration with Banking partners, you will contribute to the sound asset growth and profits of the Bank by performing in-depth risk assessment, ensuring requests are properly analyzed and adjudicated in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Data validation and effective challenge result in sound and comprehensive recommendations to facilitate decisions within requested time frames (accelerated at times).

Reporting to a Director, you will be responsible for assigned portfolio ensuring credit adjudication, control activities and related processes are conducted within the Bank's risk appetite and policies, providing independent review and effective challenge to proposals from the Bank's first line for credit requests with continuous account & portfolio monitoring.

What you'll do in this role?
  • Perform credit analysis and adjudicate on a portfolio of accounts with complex structures through the review of pertinent financial and industry information on incoming credit applications.
  • Provide effective challenge, make independent recommendations within the Bank's risk appetite and in adherence to its policies/standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge on leveraged financing, capital structures and syndication arrangements; provide analysis on EBITDA adjustments/ effective challenge on projection assumptions and repayment capacity/ DAC models; escalate aged underwritings to ensure the bank's portfolio is aligned with its risk appetite; contribute to the framework and risk appetite statement while meeting industry and regulatory expectations.
  • Ensure credit requests are accurately captured in the Bank's systems.
  • Review documentation / exception terms, as applicable, make independent recommendations, escalate adjudication to the appropriate level.
  • High level of collaboration with Banking partners to ensure key risks are identified and addressed appropriately through the credit adjudication process, including with other stakeholders to achieve optimal effectiveness and efficiency in meeting client needs as well as operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure prompt and timely adjudication of credit applications and ensure that all relevant information needed to make an informed credit recommendation has been presented.
  • Provide recommendations to senior executives, present and participate in discussions at Senior Credit Committees ensuring the Bank is adequately protected.
  • Undertake industry / subsector analysis and lending guideline policy reviews for submission to senior executives including preparation of annual Industry Reports for various coverage industries and as appropriate for various levels of approval. Act as SME for assigned industries/sectors.
  • Play an integral role in the client relationship experience, actively providing feedback on deals and assigned accounts, while maintaining control function responsibilities.
  • Alert credit portfolio management to unsatisfactory trends in lending practices, early identification of problem loans and ensure accuracy of risk ratings through identification of changes in account quality (via review of industry/economic trends and general news flow). Assess strategies and restructuring proposals for problem loan accounts or accounts of concern which require closer monitoring.
  • Develop a high degree of industry knowledge/expertise and ensure the ongoing quality of the credit portfolio through the review of industry publications, staying abreast with current financial news, assessment of financial reporting packages, and discussions with Banking officers.
  • Increasing use of data analytics to monitor and assess the portfolio, underlying trends, and application in credit adjudication.
  • Contribute to a culture grounded in prudent risk management, collaboration, continuous learning, inclusion and personal accountability. Actively conduct day-to-day activities in an effective and efficient manner, within the Guidelines for Business Conduct and Policies & Procedures.
  • Integrate guidance from Sr. Management and new policies into daily activities.
  • Mentor and coach as assigned.
  • Actively participate in strategic projects/initiatives as applicable.
