JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Senior Azure Cosmos DB Developer / Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a critical enterprise application and lead the successful implementation, optimization, and operational excellence of Azure Cosmos DB solutions. This is a hands-on development-focused role requiring deep production experience with Azure Cosmos DB in high-volume, mission-critical environments. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in data modeling, partitioning strategies, performance tuning, distributed systems, and cloud-native architecture while helping establish enterprise best practices for scalability, resiliency, and performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design, develop, and optimize Azure Cosmos DB solutions for enterprise-scale applications.
• Lead the implementation of new Cosmos DB environments and establish development standards and best practices.
• Design efficient data models and partitioning strategies to support large-scale, distributed workloads.
• Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and database throughput utilization.
• Monitor, analyze, and tune RU/s consumption to balance performance and cost efficiency.
• Configure and manage indexing policies to support application performance requirements.
• Design and implement Change Feed-based solutions for event-driven architectures and downstream processing.
• Support multi-region deployments and globally distributed database architectures.
• Ensure high availability, resiliency, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements are met.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues involving performance, scalability, data consistency, and application integrations.
• Collaborate with software engineering teams to design cloud-native, distributed system architectures.
• Develop and support integrations with Azure services including Functions, App Services, Event Hubs, Service Bus, and AKS.
• Implement observability, monitoring, telemetry, and performance diagnostics for Cosmos DB environments.
• Conduct performance testing, capacity planning, and workload analysis.
• Establish operational best practices for monitoring, alerting, backup, recovery, and platform governance.
• Participate in architecture reviews and provide technical leadership on Cosmos DB design decisions.
• Mentor development teams on Cosmos DB development patterns, optimization techniques, and operational excellence.
• Support production environments and mission-critical applications with high availability requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Architecture, Engineering, Cloud Operations, and Business Stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 7 years of software engineering and database development experience.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on Azure Cosmos DB experience in production environments.
• Strong expertise in Azure Cosmos DB data modeling and partitioning strategies.
• Experience optimizing Cosmos DB queries and application performance.
• Strong understanding of RU/s management, throughput optimization, and cost management.
• Experience designing and maintaining Cosmos DB indexing policies.
• Hands-on experience with Change Feed processing and event-driven architectures.
• Experience implementing multi-region deployments and globally distributed database solutions.
• Knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity best practices.
• Experience monitoring and troubleshooting Cosmos DB performance in production environments.
• Experience supporting high-volume, always-on enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and distributed systems design.
• Experience with Azure services including:

- Azure Functions

- Azure App Services

- Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)

- Azure Event Hubs

- Azure Service Bus

- Azure Application Insights
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• .NET development experience.
• Java development experience.
• Experience building microservices-based applications.
• Experience with event-driven and serverless architectures.
• Experience implementing observability and performance monitoring solutions.
• Financial Services, Banking, Insurance, or other regulated-industry experience.
• Experience supporting large-scale cloud modernization initiatives.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Experience working with enterprise-scale distributed data platforms.

CERTIFICATIONS
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Cosmos DB Developer Specialty preferred.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate preferred.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert preferred.
• Azure Data Engineer Associate certification preferred.
• Relevant Cloud, Database, or Distributed Systems certifications are a plus.
