Full Job Description
Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Scrum Master / Test Lead to support New York Life's Technology Modernization Initiative. This hybrid role combines agile delivery leadership with quality engineering oversight, helping the team deliver high-quality, business-focused outcomes with greater predictability and confidence.

You will facilitate agile execution, remove impediments, manage dependencies, and drive continuous improvement while also leading testing strategy, planning, defect management, and release readiness. You'll partner closely with Product Owners, developers, test engineers, business stakeholders, and other technology teams to embed quality throughout the delivery lifecycle.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as Scrum Master for an agile delivery team, facilitating ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and continuous improvement while partnering with the Product Owner and delivery team to manage priorities, dependencies, risks, blockers, acceptance criteria, and delivery commitments.
  • Lead quality and testing activities across releases, including test planning, test case readiness, defect triage, UAT coordination, and release validation.
  • Drive modern quality engineering practices, including shift-left testing, test automation, functional and non-functional testing, rapid feedback loops, and opportunities to use AI-driven testing and other emerging quality engineering capabilities.
  • Track and communicate sprint progress, delivery metrics, quality trends, risks, and release readiness to technology and business stakeholders.
  • Foster strong collaboration and accountability across developers, testers, Product Owners, business partners, and other delivery teams while identifying opportunities to improve agile and testing practices.

What You'll Bring

You bring strong leadership, facilitation, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, along with experience across both agile delivery and quality engineering. You are comfortable guiding teams through complex technology initiatives, balancing delivery priorities with quality expectations, and creating transparency around progress, risks, scope, and release readiness.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of technology delivery experience, with demonstrated experience in agile delivery/Scrum and software testing or quality engineering.
  • Strong understanding of Scrum, agile planning, backlog management, sprint execution, retrospectives, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience leading or coordinating testing activities within an agile environment, including test planning, defect management, release readiness, test automation, and shift-left principles.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with Product Owners, engineering teams, testers, business stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), SAFe Scrum Master, or related agile certification.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar agile lifecycle management tools.
  • Experience with AI-driven testing, test automation, or emerging quality engineering technologies.
  • Experience supporting enterprise modernization, financial services, insurance, or compensation-related technology initiatives.
