RELIEF CHIEF ENGINEER

The Opportunity
We are currently seeking applications from individuals interested in being considered for the Shipboard Management position of Chief Engineer in Horseshoe Bay. This opportunity offers a dynamic work environment where you will travel with the vessel and work a flexible schedule aligned with Horseshoe Bay fleet requirements, as directed by the supervisor on a monthly basis.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Chief Engineer, you add value in the following key areas:

  • Ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the ships propulsion and power systems
  • Monitoring, maintaining, and documenting the condition of the ships structure
  • Planning, directing, and implementing regular emergency repairs and alterations and assisting the overall drydock and refit program
  • Planning, directing, and organizing assignments of the watch crew to work on machinery that may alter the performance of the vessel
  • Supervising a comprehensive vessel engineering maintenance program including inspecting the appearance, condition, and function of all onboard equipment
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies regarding ship inspections and conducting engineering crew inspections to ensure awareness and compliance with regulatory company standards
  • Making operational judgements based on mechanical capability and conditions
  • Leading, directing and training crews and conducting regular drills in responding to fire, safety, confined spaces and evacuation drills and other emergency situations
  • Assisting the Engineering Superintendent in developing and implementing safety, operational, and employee performance improvements and efficiencies
  • Ensuring security compliance with the vessel security plan, applicable legislation, regulations, and company policy and procedures, conducting security equipment inspections and audits as required, and reporting and correcting deficiencies
  • Performing other duties as required


What you bring to the team

Education Requirements
  • Transport Canada 1st Class Motor Certificate of Competency
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite of applications
  • Completion of supervisory and business courses is considered an asset

Work Experience
  • Experience as a Chief Engineer or watch engineer in a position at the equivalent certification level
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience

Additional information

The target salary range: $135,600 - $150,700 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate's knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
