Market Risk is a team within Global Risk Management (GRM) that measures and monitors market risk arising from Scotiabank GBM's trading activities of Global Banking and Markets (GBM), and International Banking (IB).

The Data Governance and Central Office team, within the larger Securities Analytics, Data Governance and Central Office team, has the mandate to enable effectiveness and efficiency across Market Risk globally and serves as the lightning rod for initiatives and requests that span across market risk groups.

The Data Governance and Central Office team provides governance oversight to ensure Market Risk processes are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Act as the secretary of Market Risk Management and Policy Committee (MRMPC), which includes the Bank's senior capital markets, and risk executives.
  • Be in charge of effective functioning of MRMPC meeting including logistics and preparation of meeting materials.
  • Partner with Market Risk teams globally.
  • Engage Market Risk in a proactive manner to promote open communication and synergies of process.
  • Work with GRM's Center of Excellence (COE) team to ensure Market Risk's data management is compliant with BCBS 239 and the Bank's internal Data Policy and Standards.
  • Work closely with data producers, data system custodians and the various Chief Data Office (CDO) teams to effectively resolve the Market Risk Data Quality issues.
  • Support activities under the Bank's Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Program for Market Risk, including identifying regulatory changes, maintaining regulatory and control libraries, conducting Compliance Risk and Control Assessments, as applicable
  • Develop strong partnerships with internal stakeholders in the business, IT and control functions.
  • Lead and manage initiatives, e.g. process improvements, that improve the effectiveness of TFRM and satisfy regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the processes and technology associated with market risk/valuation policies and documentation including limits.
  • Assist Market Risk Management in interactions with regulators and auditors.
  • Assist in Securities Analytics and other related activities

  • Quantitative Undergrad degrees (e.g. Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering) with a finance related Masters degree preferred.
  • Progress towards/completion of CFA/FRM/PRM is an asset
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in risk management and capital markets
  • Experience in leading technology projects an asset
  • Programming skills in Python an asset
  • Experience in Power BI and similar tools an asset
  • Self-motivated, ability to manage projects independently while collaborating with different stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent coordination and organization.
  • Expert relationship building, and strong communication are essential
