Start date: October 2026

The Manager, School Communications will capitalize on opportunities to share UCC's stories through the College's news feed, parent and alumni publications, social media posts, event scripts and presentations, and more. The role will be the content lead on a number of regular products including the weekly UCC News feed, the weekly Heads Up newsletter for current families, the quarterly Common Ties newsletter for alumni, and the From the Avenue and Events sections of the biannual Old Times alumni magazine, as well as various duties related to the magazine's printing and publication.

In this role, the Manager, School Communication will act as a logistics co-ordinator and art director on photo and video shoots related to whole-school communications products, and assist as required in the production of in-print and digital whole-school materials.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Content Development and Production
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications and whole-school colleagues to plan, develop, write and/or edit a range of materials, including news feed stories and related social media/Common Ties Alumni Network (CTAN) posts; Heads Up and alumni newsletter stories; print and digital event invitations; event scripts and presentations; content for the website, family handbook, viewbook and parent research boards; content for Old Times magazine; and other materials as required;
  • Act as a roving reporter to research and write school, alumni and community stories through both individual and roundtable-style interviews, to be featured in a range of publications including on the weekly UCC News feed. Capture school-life images and videos for multi-purpose use. In collaboration with the Director, School Marketing and Communications, co-ordinate and art direct professional photo and video shoots;
  • Collaborate with UCC colleagues and external creative partners to ensure that design and production of materials are brand-aligned.
  • Provide general writing, editing and proofreading support to the Advancement team using CP Style and UCC's style guide.

Communications Planning
  • Develop a whole-school content calendar (written, video, digital); lead execution of calendar and assist with putting its tactics and specifics into action;
  • In consultation with Advancement team directors, regularly and accurately update UCC's style guide, ensuring it reflects appropriate changes to language and communication style.

Operational
  • Analyze relevant data on UCC audience segments to refine communications strategies, plans and prose in support of continually evolving content and brand narrative;
  • Review College-wide communications and marketing materials and liaise with colleagues as appropriate to ensure consistency of brand and written style guides.

Knowledge Sharing
  • Develop relationships that enhance UCC's brand and effectiveness of its communications and marketing;
  • Develop and maintain knowledge-sharing relationships with fellow Advancement team members and colleagues across the College.

Other duties:
  • On an annual basis, be a mentor for an IB Continuum student project (a Personal Project or an Extended Essay).

Job Requirements
  • Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:
  • University degree in related field;
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in an educational or not-for-profit environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrated experience writing, editing and proofreading journalistic-style pieces articles, profiles and social media posts while adhering to style guides, ideally CP Style;
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams on communications and marketing strategies, tactics and plans that leverage core brand strengths and position it for future growth.;
  • Demonstrated experience exercising writing, editing and proofreading best practices in service of clear, concise and impactful communications products;
  • Familiarity with print, digital media, and photo shoot and video production and processes;
  • Knowledge of Google Drive, Google Docs and Gmail.

This position is an existing vacancy. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. The range for the position is $81,430-$106,877.
