The Director, School Marketing and Communications, is a visionary, strategic brand communications leader responsible for driving the school's overarching brand strategy, admission marketing, and community-facing communications for Upper Canada College. This role ensures that UCC's mission of providing transformational learning experiences is dynamically communicated across all school and community channels. Serving as a key partner to senior stakeholders, the Director leads a high-performing team to elevate the school's global reputation, protect its brand integrity, and optimize digital and traditional marketing initiatives.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Marketing and Communications, the Director brings fresh ideas and perspectives along with vision and leadership to advance Upper Canada College's brand and strategic priorities. Serving as a vital brand champion at UCC, the Director develops and implements comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that build the case for support, elevate the College's profile, and strengthen its culture of tradition, excellence and innovation.
As a leader, mentor, and collaborator, the Director oversees multi-channel campaigns across print, digital, video, and social platforms, driving deep community engagement across a diverse network of stakeholders, including alumni, parents, volunteers, and friends.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks- Strategic Brand Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive, whole-school marketing and communication plan that aligns with UCC's strategic plan and promotes its core values.
- Stakeholder Management and Collaboration: Serve as the primary marketing contact for UCC's strategic initiatives and school programs. This includes producing and managing marketing campaigns for UCC's delivery of IB Programmes, Lang Leadership Lab, Systems Transformation, Admission and UCC Summer Day Camps.
- Agency and Freelance Management: Lead external creative agencies and freelance partners on design and content projects. Keep track of production schedules and budgets.
- Brand Integrity: Oversee brand style guides, external and internal media/signs/displays to ensure consistency across all platforms.
- Content Planning and Development: Develop a cohesive, whole-school multi-channel content strategy that elevates UCC's brand narrative; provide high-level editorial ownership for institutional publications (Old Times, newsletters, Heads Up, news channels) to ensure storytelling is compelling, unified, and aligned with the College's brand and priorities.
- Digital Transformation: Continually elevate the College's digital presence including leading content, and visual production of website, social media channels and digital campaigns.
- Team Guidance and Mentorship: Supervise, coach, and guide the career growth of marketing team members. Help create a highly collaborative, inclusive, and positive team environment that welcomes fresh ideas, creative storytelling and accountability.
- Technical and Creative Direction: Provide daily direction, practical guidance, and professional mentorship to the creative team and contract workers helping with content production.
- Quality Control: Review team projects to ensure high standards of accuracy and brand consistency before final leadership review.
- Crisis and Reputation Management: Work closely with the Executive Director to manage school communication issues and protect the College's public reputation.
- Operational Excellence and Analytics: Manage marketing initiatives using data and analytics. Use good judgment when making choices about budgets, media selections, and balancing quality with deadlines on complex print and digital projects.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Build strong, collaborative relationships across the advancement team and other school teams (such as academics, People & Culture and admission) to make all communications as clear and effective as possible.
- UCC Community Contribution: Actively participate in the life of the school community, including opportunities to serve as a mentor for student IB continuum projects (Personal Project, PYP Exhibition, or Extended Essay).
Job Requirements- Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:
- University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Demonstrated experience writing, editing and assigning editorial and visual content for a variety of platforms;
- A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant, progressive experience in brand strategy, management and marketing;
- Deep expertise in developing marketing strategies;
- Excellent creative judgement and ability to manage a creative team to inspire innovative results in design and development of advertising, creation of print and digital materials, social media, photography, videography, copywriting and market research;
- Expert in-depth knowledge of print, digital platforms, social media channels, digital marketing and advertising and current marketing best practices and trends, including how AI is significantly influencing marketing processes and results;
- Demonstrated success creating and executing paid advertising campaigns and digital marketing and social media strategies;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Experience working and building relationships in complex organizations;
- Experience with leading and managing large, complex and multiple projects simultaneously, and scaling digital campaigns;
- Hands-on experience with marketing tools, including but not limited to Google, Campaign Monitor (or similar), Hootsuite (or other social media monitoring software) and Google Analytics.

This position is an existing vacancy. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. The range for the position is $99,345-$130,390.
