Operational Risk and Resilience is receiving heightened attention from global regulators, and expectations in this area are evolving continuously. Scotiabank is advancing its operational risk and resilience capabilities through the Enterprise Operational Risk function and is adding a Manager position in the Global Operational Risk and Resilience 2nd line team with Global Risk Management. This individual will report to the Senior Manager, Operational Resilience Program Governance and contribute to the development and implementation of the 2nd line enterprise-wide Operational Risk and Resilience strategy.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Support the development, implementation and maintenance of the Operational risk and resilience program roadmap, i.e., key milestones, deliverables, and timelines ensuring that activities align with the team's strategic objectives and goals.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for operational risk and resilience and provide advice and guidance to first and second line teams
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and frameworks that manage operational risk and resilience
  • Support engagement with key stakeholders, ensuring their needs and expectations are met throughout the risk management lifecycle.
  • Support the identification and implementation of process improvement opportunities to support our Operational Risk and Resilience posture.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive working environment to achieve success.
  • Deliver end-to-end capabilities within the context of an assigned initiative.
  • Support maintenance of effective communication channels with various first and second line of defense teams as required
  • Deploy change management strategies to enable the success of desired outcomes
  • Ensure activities are delivered with a sense of urgency and arising risks/issues are raised to appropriate leadership.
  • Support ongoing monitoring and reporting of operational resilience initiatives, risks and issues.
  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Complete ad-hoc tasks that may be required to be undertaken or as the business requires
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • Undergraduate degree or similar preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of risk management practices.
  • Knowledge of Scotiabank business lines and financial institutions, infrastructures, and markets preferred.
  • Knowledge of Operational Risk and Resilience related regulations e.g. OSFI E-21, OSFI B-10, OSFI B-13, DORA and CP26/23 Operational Resilience an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to identify, manage and collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the global footprint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in preparing communications and engaging effectively with business partners/stakeholders across the Bank.
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise sound judgment as to the materiality of risks where identified.
  • Strong presentation skills to explain regulations and internal policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrate proven time management skills and the adaptability to address shifting priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • High standards of performance, confidentiality, integrity, timeliness, and efficiency must always be upheld.
