The Department of Arts, Culture and Media (ACM) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) is a vibrant department that brings together a wealth of artistic and academic activity under one umbrella. Under the general direction of the Chair, the Manager, Finance and Administration manages all non- academic administrative and financial aspects of the Department of Arts Culture and Media and assists in the administration of its academic business. The incumbent exercises a high degree of judgment and initiative in resolving problems relating to administration, financial management (budgeting and cost containment), operations and human resources to manage the department's day-to-day operations and support its academic mission. Duties include, among others: overseeing all financial budgets; assisting the Chair with planning/forecasting, preparing financial reports and cost recoveries, creating analysis of teaching costs; mounting and maintaining all budgets within the AMS framework; and preparing salary information and payroll requests for all administrative, casual and CUPE 3902 Unit 1 and Unit 3 members. It acts as liaison between faculty and staff on administrative matters and interpreting university and UTSC policies and procedures. This position is required to have a strong understanding of the internal workings and policies of the University including collective agreements, and legislated regulations, among others, to support senior faculty administrators, staff and students on administrative practices. It assumes a leadership role in departmental administration, and manages the administrative team to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of services to faculty, staff and students.

Qualifications
  1. EDUCATION:

University degree and a professional accounting certification or in the final stages of certification and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. EXPERIENCE:

At least 5 years experience in an intermediate/senior accounting position, preferably in a University academic or administrative office. Experience as a senior member of an administrative team dealing with faculty and academic matters would be an asset. Experience managing staff is required.

  1. SKILLS:

Advanced knowledge of Excel and Word. Working knowledge of PowerPoint. Working knowledge of the University's Financial Information System (FIS) and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) would be an asset.

  1. OTHER:

Proven expertise in financial and in human resourcemanagementMust have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written), a sense of professionalism, and a high level of discretion, flexibility, tact and diplomacy. Strong analytical and problem solving abilities. Must be able to manage conflicting priorities and multiple deadlines. In a leadership role, the incumbent must work closely together with the other Departmental administrative staff, as part of a team to support the overall administration of the Departments. It is also essential that the incumbent be committed to offering quality service, and fostering good working relations among all members of UTSC.
