What is the Opportunity?

The Wealth Management Americas Data Management Office (DMO) is establishing effective data governance capabilities that balance defensive and offensive governance to comply with policy and regulatory expectations while enabling Wealth Management Canada, Direct Investing and US Wealth Management to leverage data and AI to grow the business.

The Manager, Data Management and Governance is an important role in the WM Americas DMO that collaborates with business stakeholders, IT, the Enterprise CDO, and other Data Management Offices across RBC to execute on data governance standards of care for high-risk data to comply with the Enterprise Information Management (IM) Risk Policy and extend the standards of care to other high value data assets.

You will be responsible for executing foundational processes to implement data management standards of care for WM Canada and Direct Investing and supporting USWM. The role will have exposure to many elements of data management and governance including data risk management, data accountability, metadata management, lineage and sourcing, data quality, and issue management and resolution.

What will you do?
  • Implement data standards of care according to our enterprise data risk policy and standards to drive improvements to the maturity of data governance capabilities (accountability, metadata management, lineage, data sourcing, data quality and controls)
  • Curate information in the data governance and metadata management platform and become the platform subject matter expert
  • Produce and maintain reports on key performance indicators, key risk indicators and program status for data management and governance compliance
  • Leverage relationships with stakeholders across Business Units, IT and Enterprise Functions to establish effective and sustainable data management and governance practices across WM, in alignment with Global WM data governance strategy.
  • Support cross-functional partners in adopting agile, modern, non-invasive data governance practices and processes that satisfy regulatory and audit requirements, including refresh and attestation processes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects to elevate current artefacts and develop scalable processes as we extend into new areas of data (e.g. AI use and governance) with business partners


What do you need to succeed?

Must have:
  • Knowledge and previous experience working with data management, governance and risk concepts and capabilities including data dictionaries, lineage, metadata management, data quality and controls, and issue remediation
  • Previous experience in Wealth Management, ideally in data governance or risk management role
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills (written and verbal) including meeting facilitation and presentation skills, with a proven track record of simplifying and distilling complicated messages
  • Detail-oriented critical thinker with proven ability to follow through and complete complex processes
  • Strong organizational awareness, demonstrated ability to communicate risks and issues and escalate when required

Nice-to-have:
  • Experience/knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements for US financial services organizations
  • Project/program management, change management, and/or business analysis experience
  • Working knowledge of the data management tools including Collibra, Informatica, Snowflake and Data Quality tools
