The Manager, Credit Risk Governance contributes to the overall success of Retail Credit Risk in Canada by providing effective challenge on Unsecured credit risk strategy and policy changes to ensure the lending portfolio is managed in alignment with the Bank's established risk appetite and in compliance with governing regulations and internal policies.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Review and provide effective challenge recommendations on Credit Risk Proposals (CRPs) for originations and account management strategies predominantly for Unsecured Lending products (credit cards, unsecured lines of credit, etc.) to ensure alignment with the Bank's established policies and risk appetite.
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Support the second line "2B" challenge function with providing independent oversight on credit risk strategy and policy changes, ensuring alignment with the established governance process.
  • Perform in-depth review of incoming CRPs, analyze and make recommendations to improve origination/account management and underwriting strategies, along with improvements to existing processes and procedures.
  • Support ongoing strategy performance monitoring and reporting to senior management, including making recommendations on existing strategies and policies.
  • Liaise with the policy teams and first line partners to address any identified gaps in the CRP and provide input and guidance on mitigating strategies, as applicable.
  • Support the 2B team with special projects or investigations as requested by management.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Relevant experience in credit lending, risk management, or related analytical roles
  • Knowledge of credit risk origination/account management techniques, retail lending strategies, and loan loss provisions/delinquency management
  • Strong experience in data analysis and technical proficiency
  • Strong planning and organization skills, with ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities
  • Self-driven, organized, and comfortable with ambiguity, demonstrating strong judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • University degree in business, economics, statistics, mathematics, management sciences, or analytics.
