JOB SUMMARY

Ensures there is no interruption of Anesthesia services throughout the hospital due to supply shortages or equipment failure. This requires the management and training of personnel available for technical and patient care support, maintaining supplies, and the maintenance of equipment. Serves as the first line of contact between technicians and clinicians. Serves as the support service's liaison to other departments throughout the Hospitals. Participates in the education of faculty, residents and nurse anesthetists in the architecture of the anesthesia equipment and proper use.

Essential Job Functions

  • Schedules all anesthesia technicians and technologists.
  • Schedules daily work according to staffing needs.
  • Will "fill in" in the daily schedule when required due to absences.
    Completes and conducts annual and probationary performance evaluations of all technicians and technologists on a timely basis.
  • Meets with technicians and technologists to develop work goals, and provides ongoing feedback regarding performance.
  • Provides staff training and contributes to development of training program.
  • Screens prospective applicants for placement.
  • Follows up with HR to recommend employment if qualified, and coordinates hiring process once a determination has been made.
  • Completes payroll analysis and submits time and attendance for all subordinates.
  • Approves all vacation and time off requests.
  • Maintains all records concerning employee time and attendance.
    Evaluates new equipment for function and cost and recommend acquisition.
  • Coordinates manufacturer in-services for both the Department and the Technician/Technologist group, for new and upgraded items.
  • Determines schedule for placement of new equipment into daily operations and communicates relevant information to the Department.
  • Supervises the repair and maintenance of all anesthesia equipment and instruments.
  • Works with Clinical Engineering to assure that repairs are completed in a timely fashion, and that the Service Level Agreement for interaction between the departments is being upheld.
  • Acts as the department representative on institutional committees.
  • Secures maintenance contracts with manufacturers for equipment and instruments and maintains equipment and instruments according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Manages daily work of the Anesthesia Buyer, who is responsible for the ordering of all anesthesia supplies, equipment and instruments for the GOR and CLI.
  • Provides oversight and monitoring of Materials Management team processes for purposes of ordering and stocking of the Comer and DCAM O.R.'s. Supervises organization of support spaces, restocking of O.R.'s and work areas, supply and set-up assistance for practitioners.
  • Monitors performance to hospital budget targets for supplies and equipment.
  • Completes daily, on-going surveillance of all operating rooms and off-site anesthetizing locations, as well as Technician/Technologist personnel throughout the organization.
  • Serves as primary contact and Operations Manager for the O.R. Blood Gas Labs. In this role, performs all proficiency testing, competency training and testing, and daily oversight of three remote labs.
  • Functions as primary liaison and contact for the College of American Pathology (CAP), CLIA, the external laboratory consultant, and the internal quality manager for decentralized laboratories.
  • Handles all disciplinary and commendatory actions for the Technician/Technologist group, including: promotions, corrective actions, and terminations.
  • Conducts weekly educational in-services for Technician/Technologist group.
  • Aids team in setting and meeting educational goals, including preparation for certification through the ASATT (American Society of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists).
    Trains all new technicians in the areas of: O.R. practices, preliminary Technician processes, time and attendance expectations, safety, blood gas testing, off-site activities, and general orientation to the Department.
  • Performs competency testing for turn overs, cart preparation, equipment processing, stocking of workroom and off-site requirements.
    Communicates and assists Technicians and Technologists in disseminating and upholding the Hospital's mission statement, as well as relevant Studer goals and objectives.
  • Discusses annual employee surveys and develops improvement plans related to feedback.
