Experienced Consultant to join the
Retail team within our Consumer & Industrials Value Creation group in the Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) practice.
Our Consumer & Industrials Value Creation team helps corporate and private equity clients identify, quantify, and realize value creation opportunities before, during, and after transactions. We work alongside management teams and investors to improve operating performance, accelerate transformation, and deliver measurable business outcomes. Our retail-focused professionals bring deep industry expertise and practical execution experience to help clients improve profitability, productivity, customer experience, and operational effectiveness.
We are seeking candidates who bring experience improving business performance in a retail or retail-adjacent environment, with demonstrated ability to identify, quantify, and implement value creation opportunities across people, process, and technology. Successful candidates will combine retail operating knowledge, process improvement methodologies, analytical modeling capabilities, and consulting delivery skills to drive measurable EBITDA improvement, margin expansion, labor productivity gains, inventory optimization, and service-level improvements.
Responsibilities
- Analyze business performance across store operations, labor productivity, inventory management, merchandising, supply chain, customer experience, and supporting corporate functions
- Develop Excel-based models and analyses to quantify operational opportunities, business cases, and expected financial impact
- Gather business requirements, document current-state processes, and identify opportunities for process optimization and standardization
- Facilitate process mapping, workflow analysis, and operational assessments to uncover performance improvement opportunities
- Measure and evaluate operational performance through KPI development, dashboard reporting, benchmarking, and performance management frameworks
- Support the development of value creation roadmaps that align operational initiatives to EBITDA growth, margin expansion, and strategic business objectives
- Collaborate with cross-functional client stakeholders to implement process, organizational, and technology-enabled improvements
- Participate in project planning, workplan development, risk assessment, and client deliverable creation
- Contribute to practice development through methodology enhancement, knowledge sharing, recruiting, proposal support, and thought leadership activities
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate analysis, synthesize complex information, and support data-driven recommendations for clients, exercising sound judgment in evaluating outputs.
- Apply AI technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation tools, data models) to enhance insights, improve delivery efficiency, and elevate the quality of client outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
- 2+ years of experience working for a consulting firm or within a retail, consumer products, distribution, or other retail-adjacent operating environment
- Experience improving business performance through operational, process, technology, or organizational initiatives
- Strong understanding of retail operations and key business drivers including labor productivity, inventory management, customer service, merchandising, store operations, and/or supply chain performance
- Strong Excel and analytical modeling capabilities with experience building business cases, operational analyses, and financial impact assessments
- Experience conducting business analysis, operational assessments, and performance improvement initiatives
- Experience with process mapping, workflow analysis, value stream mapping, or related process improvement methodologies
- Ability to define, measure, and monitor KPIs to evaluate business and operational performance
- Experience integrating AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) into day-to-day workflows to enhance productivity and insight generation, coupled with strong critical thinking to assess accuracy, mitigate bias, and ensure high-quality outputs.
- Strong problem-solving, quantitative analysis, and structured communication skills
- Ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations for executive stakeholders
- Experience supporting multiple workstreams and managing priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment
- Prior consulting experience preferred
- Experience with Lean, continuous improvement, operational excellence, or productivity improvement methodologies preferred

Based on pay transparency guidelines, the salary range for this role can vary based on your proximity to one of our West Monroe offices (see table below). Individual salaries are determined by evaluating a variety of factors including geography, experience, skills, education, and internal equity.
