Job Summary

The Experience Designer plays a key role in supporting the creation of user-centered experiences by collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and refine design solutions. This role assists in crafting intuitive, engaging, and accessible interfaces that align with business objectives and user needs. By participating in usability testing, research, and iterative design processes, the Experience Designer helps ensure seamless interactions across platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the design of the overall end-to-end user experience and partner with cross-functional teams.

  • Create and own the end-to-end user persona-based experiences across multiple products and platforms.

  • Drive customer/patient/user-centric design and generate requirements to create a best-in-class experience.

  • Design highly usable experiences via rapid-prototyping and testing on designs with internal partners.

  • Develop and maintain consistent design guidelines & standards across all products, including ensuring adherence to visual consistency.

  • Construct conceptual mock-ups to guide user validation sessions and instruct technical teams of general design requirements.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to communicate design concepts and strategies and ensure alignment and integration of design strategies.

  • Partners with technical teams to understand how UX / UI requirements will translate into product design and guide the decision-making process to deliver the best user-experience considering technical restraints.

  • Communicate design concepts and strategies to stakeholders and team members.

  • Maintain quality assurance standards through rigorous testing and validation, providing documentation and training support as needed.

  • Develop UI/UX performance metrics to continuously track and update as needed (e.g., compliance metrics, bug fixes, number of users, scalability, usability).

  • Assist in the design of end-to-end user experiences and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Support the development of persona-based experiences across multiple products and platforms.

  • Contribute to the refinement of design elements through rapid prototyping and usability testing.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure design strategies align with technical and business requirements.

  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.

Who You Are

Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in design, human-centered design (HCD), or a related field.

  • 3 years in UX/UI design, with expertise in user-centered design and creating intuitive, visually engaging interfaces.

  • PDF or link to your Design Portfolio required

  • Proficiency in design tools like Figma and using modern AI tools to accelerate design work.

  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards, design systems, and UX best practices.

  • Experience translating user needs into detailed wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and integrate feedback into design solutions.

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree (e.g., Masters in Design, HCI, or related field).

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or regulated industries.

  • Familiarity with system guardrails and design for technology-enabled solutions.

  • Expertise in design frameworks like Design Thinking or Service Design.

  • Experience leveraging industry benchmarks to deliver scalable, best-in-class solutions.

  • Experience developing end-to-end omnichannel or multichannel product / program experiences.

  • Experience working within an agile development environment, including participation in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and user testing to iteratively enhance digital solutions.

  • Exposure to omnichannel design approaches with a strong focus on integrating responsive web, mobile applications, and emerging digital platforms to create a cohesive user experience.

Location

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA and relocation benefits are not available.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $128,800 - $239,200 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
