Overview

Data Analyst

 

Oakton, VA

 

The Data Analyst supports enterprise network and cybersecurity operations by aggregating, normalizing, and visualizing data from a variety of technical tools. This role provides critical insights to support situational awareness, performance monitoring, and executive decision-making. Working closely with senior network engineers, Splunk engineers, and application SMEs, the analyst is responsible for transforming data into briefings and dashboards tailored to leadership and mission stakeholders. Tools in use include Power BI, the Atlassian suite (e.g., Jira, Confluence), and other data visualization and collaboration platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Aggregate and normalize network, infrastructure, and security data from tools such as Splunk, Extra Hop, SolarWinds, Jira, and others
  • Build and maintain dashboards that reflect key performance indicators, incident trends, system baselines, and threat detection metrics
  • Create executive-level reports and visualizations that summarize operational status and emerging risks
  • Collaborate with technical teams (network, Splunk, cybersecurity) to ensure data integrity and contextual accuracy
  • Develop automated reporting pipelines using Power BI, Jira dashboards, and other reporting tools
  • Track service availability, alert statistics, and project progress across technical teams
  • Translate complex technical outputs into briefings suitable for non-technical and executive audiences
  • Support data calls for leadership reviews, risk assessments, and compliance reporting
  • Maintain documentation of data sources, logic, and visualization methodologies to ensure consistency and auditability
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, network reporting, or business intelligence in a technical environment
  • Must hold a current DoD 8140 (or 8570) baseline certification at the IAT Level II or higher (e.g., CompTIA Security+)
  • U.S. Citizen with active TS/SCI clearance

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong proficiency in Power BI and working knowledge of the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence)
  • Experience transforming logs, metrics, and alerts into normalized datasets for visual analysis
  • Understanding of network data types (e.g., traffic flow, alerting, baselining, system performance)
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and IT operations reporting, including SIEM and NDR tools
  • Ability to develop clean, dynamic dashboards with drill-down and filter capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience briefing executives
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills in a multi-team technical environment
