Overview

The Database Administrator III - Oracle will support the Department of the Interior (DOI) in a proactive manner to deliver best-practice-based services that comply with DOI architecture and security standards.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the analysis and design of new application database systems and/or modifications or changes to existing systems. 
  • Perform database research and analysis and provide recommendations for the most productive use of available computer resources. 
  • Perform capacity planning and management of database environments and recommend expansion or replacement of existing hardware and software components using the latest state-of-the-art hardware and software available from a range of commercial vendors. 
  • Design and implement high-availability, clustered database systems in conjunction with other application technical representatives. 
  • Install, upgrade, patch, maintain, monitor, and tune all databases using database management and monitoring tools. 
  • Design and implement database backup, recovery, and daily operational procedures in support of hosted database systems. 
  • Perform database restores and recovery, participate in annual Disaster Recovery exercises, and document procedures and test results. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems and provide second-level on-call support. Research problems, define solutions, and coordinate implementation of solutions with staff and customers. 
  • Assist security staff in conducting internal system reviews and audits in accordance with defined policies and procedures to ensure system and component settings align with security guidelines and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). 
  • Document the resolution of security findings. 
  • Perform and document database-level auditing and tracking. 
  • Maintain required audit review logs. 
  • Ensure the availability Service Level Agreement (SLA) is met for all databases. 
  • Write and submit after-action reviews for database outages that occur outside the defined maintenance window. 
  • Manage and respond to IT requests through the Trouble Ticket System in accordance with customer SLA requirements. 
  • Manage and maintain IT system changes through the Change Request System in accordance with NBC Change Management Policy and Procedures. 
  • Be available to participate in the on-call schedule for technical out-of-hours support. The individual on call must be available during off-hours to resolve priority problems according to published procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Must have at least eight years of progressive database administration experience. 
  • Expert-level experience with Oracle version 21c and Multi-Tenant Architecture. 
  • Expert-level experience with Recovery Manager (RMAN). 
  • Expert-level experience with MySQL 8.0.42 and above on Linux and Windows servers. 
  • Proficiency in PL/SQL programming concepts, including cursors, triggers, stored procedures, and packages, and the ability to create and maintain scripts for ad hoc reporting and gathering database information. 
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. 
  • Ability to pass the Public Trust Government background investigation. 
  • Successfully pass background and drug screening

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. 
  • An Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification is preferred. 
  • A current Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) or Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification is preferred.
