What you’ll be doing


As a Consultant, Business Controls, you’ll support the management of material, systemic and emerging risks for Savings, Investment & Advice and Day-to-Day Banking (Everyday Chequing) within Personal and Business Banking (PBB). You will help to develop and implement integrated control improvement solutions across all products. You will support to manage key controls to mitigate operational exposures and potential losses. You’ll provide support of CIBC’s Control Framework to ensure compliance to regulatory, legislative, and operational requirements, including the efficient and effective management of deficiency remediation. You’ll act as the key relationship manager for the business.

How you'll succeed

  • Relationship Management – Support the relationship management activities for the assigned Line of Business, in partnership with the Sr. Consultant, and Director, Governance and Controls. Partner and interact with peer and one up levels within the Line of Business, and 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defense. 

  • Risk Assessment – Identify risk and control issues and participate in risk assessment activities and discussions. Perform detailed risk assessments and root cause analyses on control gaps and operational losses. Compile, synthesize and summarize results of risk assessments. Map business control processes; identify potential failure modes and control gaps.

  • Control Framework Execution – You understand and communicate the Control Framework requirements to LOB partners to ensure they understand and are aware of accountabilities. You lead the completion of all requirements including: Deficiency Management, Change Initiative Risk Assessments (CIRAs), Incident Reporting, Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) and Controls Development. Opportunity to support on Regulatory Group Topic (RGTs) Reviews, Regulatory Compliance Incident (RCIs) Reporting, and Risk Controls Self Assessments (RCSAs), etc. You develop and recommend new/changes to formal key Control testing programs. You develop reporting and summarize control testing results in preparation for LOB/Executive reviews and sign-off processes.

You understand key banking businesses and processes. Extensive knowledge of risk management, audit & regulatory compliance principles, practices, policies and procedures.
