Job DescriptionJob SummaryThe position is embedded in the Catastrophe (Cat) Modeling department, which operates from Singapore, Toronto and Zurich. It is responsible for quantifying the company's cat risk in close collaboration with the Cat Research, Portfolio Analytics and Tools & Technology departments.
The Cat Modeling team supports risk transfer decisions founded on our scientifically based view of Cat risk by running and analyzing vendor and proprietary cat models.
About the RoleYour core responsibility in this role is to provide timely, efficient and high-quality Cat risk modeling analytics to Underwriting, Actuarial and Risk Management In more detail your main tasks are:
- Execute Cat modeling requests of all complexities in a highly efficient, diligent, and value-adding manner including thorough exposure data analysis, communication of results and investigating the drivers of changes in the risk of loss over time.
- Contribute to the quarterly portfolio modeling and support regulatory reporting.
- Significantly contribute to or lead projects about the maintenance of the PartnerRe Cat modeling landscape, to improve its efficiency, including support in maintenance, testing and further development of internal software tools and procedure documentations.
- Participate or lead in projects around the development of PartnerRe's view of natural Cat risk with experts based in Zurich.
- Act as key resource for colleagues with less experience and conduct quality training and reviews upon request.
Work Expreince and Qualifications- Quantifying the impact of Cat risk on our clients' business is by its nature uncertain. You enjoy the challenge of balancing these uncertainties, adding value to the Underwriting process by using your analytical and communication skills where it can make the difference to the task at hand.
- The ideal candidate has 3-5 years experience as a cat analysts and gained in-depth knowledge in this discipline and also enjoys supporting colleagues with less experience.
You bring the following qualifications and personal qualities:
- A bachelor/master degree in the field of natural sciences, mathematics, actuarial sciences, engineering, computer science or a related quantitative discipline
- Ability to execute independently on all but most complex modeling tasks while prioritizing and organize tasks under time constraints.
- Specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in the cat modeling area
- Broad understanding of cat tools and methodologies as well as the reinsurance industry.
- Pro-active, pragmatic, solution oriented with a high level of self-initiative, ownership and responsibility.
- Excellent complex problem-solving skills with a new perspective on existing solutions.
- Very good project management skills.
- Advanced programming skills to produce reproducible and well-maintained code that can be shared and used by other teams.
- Very good communication skills with the ability to present complex technical topics to non-technical audiences
- Proficient (written and verbal) in English, other languages are a plus.
