About this Position

The Assistant Vice President, Platform Engineering & Operations provides executive leadership and strategic direction for the enterprise Cloud Platform Engineering ecosystem, including DevSecOps, observability, reliability engineering, and cloud-native infrastructure automation. This role is responsible for architecting and scaling a secure, resilient hybrid-cloud platform that accelerates product delivery and modernizes legacy application environments.

As a key driver of the enterprise transformation strategy, this executive will lead the cultural and technical shift toward cloud-first architectures, self-service developer platforms, and modern cloud operations that improve efficiency, reduce risk, and strengthen cybersecurity posture across our core modernization roadmaps. In addition, the role oversees Mainframe Managed Services governance, vendor partnerships, and co-managed operational models to ensure legacy environments are stably integrated with, and systematically modernized into, our core cloud strategy.

The salary range for this role is $185,000 - $195,000.
This role is not eligible for sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

Platform Modernization and Automation

Lead enterprise platform modernization initiatives across cloud, hybrid infrastructure, and mainframe environments. Drive the adoption of automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), self-service platform capabilities, and standardized engineering practices to improve scalability, resiliency, operational efficiency, delivery velocity, and long-term sustainability.

Establish platform automation strategy and governance in partnership with DevSecOps, Application Development, Enterprise Architecture, and other technology teams to reduce engineering bottlenecks and accelerate delivery. Provide strategic oversight for managed services and modernization initiatives within the Mainframe practice, ensuring alignment with enterprise transformation roadmaps, operational objectives, service quality expectations, and integration with modern enterprise platforms.

Platform Engineering and Operational Leadership

Provide executive leadership for Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Observability and Reliability Engineering, and Mainframe Managed Services. Establish and govern engineering standards, operating models, service delivery practices, and modernization strategies that ensure the resiliency, scalability, security, consistency, and sustainability of critical enterprise technology services.

Oversee the execution of complex platform and infrastructure initiatives, ensuring projects and modernization programs are delivered effectively while maintaining operational stability and service quality.

Team Leadership, Workforce Development, and Vendor Management

Build and lead high-performing engineering organizations through strategic workforce planning, talent acquisition, performance management, and professional development. Recruit and develop highly skilled engineering talent while effectively structuring and managing large-scale consultant, vendor, and managed service teams to accelerate modernization objectives.

Establish strong vendor governance and performance management practices to ensure third-party services meet enterprise expectations for delivery, quality, accountability, operational performance, and knowledge transfer.

Observability and Reliability Enablement

Lead the Observability and Reliability Engineering function to establish enterprise monitoring standards, reliability engineering practices, and baseline performance, availability, and capacity metrics across cloud, infrastructure, database, and mainframe environments.

Ensure enterprise platforms and managed services are integrated into comprehensive observability frameworks that provide real-time visibility into service health, performance, resiliency, capacity trends, and incident response effectiveness. Use operational data and reliability metrics to protect availability, improve service quality, and guide modernization priorities.

Workforce Development and Knowledge Continuity

Lead succession planning, workforce development, and operational continuity initiatives across Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Observability and Reliability Engineering, and Mainframe Managed Services.

Drive the transition from traditional infrastructure and legacy operational models to modern platform engineering capabilities through automation, standardized documentation, cross-functional knowledge transfer, and strategic skills development. Reduce key-person dependencies and single points of failure while building sustainable technical capabilities that support long-term enterprise modernization.

Cross-Functional Leadership and Strategic Alignment

Partner with senior technology leaders, Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Application Development, and business stakeholders to align platform strategy and operational priorities with enterprise objectives.

Influence technology investment decisions, modernization roadmaps, sourcing strategies, and platform standards while balancing innovation, operational risk, cost, security, resiliency, and long-term sustainability.

Scope of Responsibility

This position leads multiple enterprise technology functions and is responsible for a combination of employees, engineering leaders, technical professionals, consultants, strategic vendors, and managed service providers. The role is accountable for the execution of platform modernization initiatives, operational resiliency, engineering standards, workforce development, vendor performance, and the long-term sustainability of critical enterprise technology platforms.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Extensive progressive experience in enterprise technology, infrastructure, cloud engineering, platform engineering, or technology operations.
  • Significant leadership experience managing engineering teams, technical professionals, consultants, vendors, or managed service providers.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technology modernization and organizational transformation initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, hybrid infrastructure, automation, Infrastructure as Code, DevSecOps, observability, reliability engineering, and modern platform engineering practices.
  • Experience supporting highly available and business-critical enterprise technology environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, and knowledge continuity.
  • Experience establishing governance and performance expectations for strategic vendors and managed service providers.
  • Strong leadership, communication, strategic planning, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading enterprise cloud, infrastructure, or platform engineering teams.
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure modernization and transformation initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing mainframe environments or managed services supporting business-critical platforms.
  • Experience establishing enterprise observability and reliability engineering capabilities.
  • Experience transitioning traditional infrastructure organizations toward automation-driven platform engineering operating models.
