Accounting Manager - Path to Controller
About the Role
We're looking for an Accounting Manager to help mature our accounting function as we scale - both hands-on and forward-looking. You'll own full-cycle monthly close and account reconciliations directly, while also building the processes, controls, and documentation the function doesn't yet have. This is a growth seat for someone who wants to develop into a future Controller role as the function matures.
What You'll Own
• Full-cycle monthly close, including preparation and posting of journal entries
• Account reconciliations across the portfolio (bank, facilities, and other balance sheet accounts)
• Design and implement accounting controls, policies, and standardized processes where none currently exist
• Drive automation and process improvement within the current systems and close cycle
• Serve as primary implementer on an upcoming accounting systems transformation - data migration, testing, and cutover support (system selection and roadmap led by the CFO)
• Improve documentation and data management practices across the accounting function
• Liaise with CPAs and outside partners as needed
What We're Looking For
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• Has participated in multiple full-cycle month-end closes and owned account reconciliations directly (years of experience flexible depending on overall strength of background)
• Demonstrated interest or experience in building/improving accounting processes, controls, or documentation - not just executing existing ones
• Ability to see things through to completion, working independently while also operating as part of a team
• Strong communicator who can manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally with leadership
• Interest in growing into a Controller-level role as the function matures
Nice to Have
• CPA license or actively pursuing CPA (CPA-track)
• Familiarity with ASC 606 (revenue recognition) and ASC 842 (lease accounting) - particularly valuable given our current GAAP transition project
• Experience bringing structure to a chaotic or under-built accounting environment
• Experience with sales tax compliance across multiple states
• Real estate, coworking, hospitality, or property management industry background
Benefits
• Work-Life Balance: No standard nights or weekends required.
• Health Coverage: 75% employer coverage of Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance.
• Wellness Reimbursement: Fitness & Wellness reimbursement up to $100/month.
• Time Off: Paid Time Off (PTO), Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and 10 paid holidays in addition to PTO.
• Parental Leave: Maternity and Paternity leave.
• Retirement: 401(k) plan with company match after one year of employment.
• Professional Environment: Business casual attire and a professional workplace community.
