The most successful women are working in these cities, according to a new study.

No, it’s not New York City — but Cary, North Carolina took the top ranking where the most successful women are working. SmartAsset, a financial technology company, analyzed 200 cities across the US to find where women are most successful.

In the study, the rankings consider factors such as education, earnings, and business ownership when compiling its list. Such metrics included the percentage of women with a bachelor’s degree, median annual earnings for full-time working women, and the percentage of business owners who are women.

More than 68% of women in Cary have a bachelor’s degree, which ranked second in the study. However, more than half of the city’s business owners are women.

Washington, DC ranked second on the list for having some of the highest median earnings and full-time working women earning more than $75,000. Arlington, VA ranked third for the second year in a row just ahead of Seattle, WA and Minneapolis, MN, respectively.

Two of the country’s buzziest work sectors – San Francisco and New York City – fell lower on the rankings. San Francisco ranked sixteenth due to having one of the nation’s highest median earnings for women at $80,879, while New York City came in at No. 38.
