Job Summary
Join our dynamic Communications and Marketing team to create an excellent interactive experience for our customers and employees. We are looking for a creative, tech-savvy individual with web and creative copywriting skills who enjoys executing projects from beginning to end and presenting innovative approaches.

The ideal candidate will have copywriting skills and familiarity with AP Style to provide engaging content on our websites. Knowledge of other website programming, like HTML, CSS and JavaScript, to blend with our CMS and enhance the user experience as needed. The webmaster will ensure the website and intranet content is current, accurate, accessible (ADA compliant) and timely, as well as attractive, functional and easy to find.

This position works with all city departments to manage the development, maintenance and oversight of the city websites and intranet, and ensure sites are managed with best-practice marketing principles. This is an onsite position that requires occasional work outside of normal work hours.

Other job duties include providing training for website liaisons and assisting with writing engaging website content.
Essential Job Functions
  • Website: The webmaster serves as the primary contact for all aspects of the organization's website(s), and intranet, handling a range of responsibilities that may include web design and development, routine site and content maintenance, and various updates to ensure site(s) align with goals and objectives of the organization in a timely, efficient, functional, and friendly manner. The webmaster blends creativity with technology to ensure success.
    • Manage the city's websites, intranet, and ancillary sites, including design, copywriting, editing within Content Management System, and enhancing the CRM with original code as needed.
    • Collaborates with Information Technology as needed for technical support, and with all city departments to develop their pages to meet their needs.
    • Ensure the functionality, security, and efficiency of web infrastructure while optimizing loading speeds, fixing issues, and updating website content.
    • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot websites, test compatibility across different platforms, and monitor online traffic and performance.
    • Configure and manage web servers, implement security measures, and review search engine optimization (SEO) to enhance website visibility.
    • Address user edits, updates, and complaints, and collaborate with team members.
    • Develops and maintains policy formation and amendments.
    • Provide routine web/goal updates to management/leadership.
    • Maintains City App.
    • Maintains current knowledge of best practices and emerging developments in web design, development, accessibility and compliance, and technology to deliver functional and user-friendly websites.
    • Develops web design standards and practices and ensures they are followed and maintained.
    • Assists employees with the use of the company website through one-on-one support, user guides, and training sessions.
    • Collects and analyzes web analytics and similar data; identifies opportunities to improve search engine optimization (SEO), time on site, web traffic, and other relevant metrics.
    • Develops and maintains forms as needed for applications, submittal of information, and reservations.
    • Enhance the user experience by creating user-friendly, visually appealing, and secure sites.
    • Attention to detail and effective communication are essential, as is a balance of creativity and analytical thinking.
    • A strong technical and copywriting background is highly valued to guarantee the seamless functionality and efficiency of the website infrastructure, within a well-written, organized, and designed whole.
    • Requirements and skills:
      • Knowledge of web analytics and SEO
      • Familiarity with web standards
      • Familiarity with AP Style
      • Understanding of federal ADA compliance standards
      • Working knowledge of website management tools
      • Proficient in HTML, CSS, and Javascript; knowledge of SQL, XML, and other programming languages is preferred
      • Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities

      • Ability to generate creative ideas, apply attractive design solutions, and write engaging content.
      • Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills.
      • BSc/BA in Strategic Communications, Computer Science, Design or a related field is preferred.
  • Crisis Communication: Work closely with the Communications Team during a crisis to create, coordinate and disseminate appropriate information promptly. Will require work after-hours.
  • Copywriting/Storyteller: Write engaging web articles using proper grammar and AP style to communicate city services and unique stories.
  • Graphic Design: Design marketing material for department webpages as needed..
  • All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.
  • Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality for the assigned work hours are essential.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Work requires broad knowledge in Strategic Communications or related Information Technology fields of web design or programming. Knowledge is acquired through four years of college, resulting in a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Minimum one year serving as the primary webmaster for a public entity or private organization.
  • Licenses: Valid Driver's License required
