Full Job Description
In this role as Battery Test Engineer, Unit Cell R&D, reporting to the Manager, Unit Cell R&D in the Technology Team, you will work with an international, collaborative team to research, develop and verify new unit cell technologies. You are familiar with testing requirements from flow batteries or other relevant electrochemical devices such as PEM fuel cells or electrolysers. You have a solid understanding of engineering and DOE principles, data analysis, and accelerated lifetime test methodologies and can effectively present your work with strong communication and interpersonal skills. You enjoy hands-on work and apply strong structured problem solving and troubleshooting skills

Purpose of the Role:

  • Support the testing team in all aspects of the process, from mechanical to electrical, and concept through execution. You goal will be to ensure the quality, accuracy, and repeatability of test data to help drive data-based decisions.


  • Support the testing team in design, fabrication, calibration and commissioning of test equipment to ensure it is safe and fit for purpose.


  • Procure all necessary tools and materials required for fabrication, assembly, and testing processes.


  • Execute assigned tests, ensuring all procedures and safety practices are followed while delivering quality data to the internal customers in a timely manner.


  • Maintain and make available proper documentation of test equipment, results, and data in the correct locations.


  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise with test equipment and perform preventive maintenance tasks. This includes identifying and resolving equipment malfunctions, calibrating instruments, and ensuring proper function of the testing apparatus.


  • Contribute to the development of new test equipment and collaborate with the engineering team to provide input, suggest improvements, and help to validate the effectiveness of new testing systems.


  • Share your ideas, suggestions, and efforts to enhance efficiency, optimize processes, reduce waste.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience working hands-on in product / R&D laboratory or test facility (flow battery or fuel cell test experience a plus).


  • Understanding of instrumentation, control automation, and data acquisition systems


  • Hands-on experience in test station design and modification or similar.


  • You develop good relationships with team members and managers.


  • Applied knowledge and basic problem-solving techniques to define and resolve problems.


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar subject.


  • Electrical engineering knowledge and hands on skills (e.g. test station wiring) an asset.


$110,000 - $125,000 a year
