Full Job Description
The Opportunity
Loblaw is seeking a highly specialized and experienced Technical Lead, Risk Mitigation to join our dedicated Food Safety team, reporting to the Senior Director, Food Safety. This is a critical role focused on strengthening preventative risk controls and supporting long-term operational resilience across our store network in Canada.

With food safety, facility integrity, and pest prevention closely connected, this role will focus on identifying and resolving the underlying structural, utility, or design factors that can contribute to operational risk. Building on our existing preventative programs, you will help further strengthen our approach by moving beyond issue management toward earlier identification, sustainable remediation, and long-term risk reduction, with a meaningful impact on operational efficiency, brand reputation, and food safety standards.

If you bring expertise in structural engineering or building sciences, combined with a strong understanding of pest mitigation strategies and a root-cause mindset, this role offers the opportunity to lead a national strategy and make a meaningful impact across our store network.

This role may be based anywhere in Canada, with national travel required to support priority locations across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

As the Technical Lead, Risk Mitigation, you will:

  • Lead National Mitigation Strategy: Develop and execute a national strategy to identify and permanently resolve root-cause structural issues in priority locations.
  • On-Site Diagnostics: Travel nationally to priority locations to conduct in-depth structural assessments, analyzing building envelopes, utility lines, drainage systems, and interior designs for pest vulnerabilities.
  • Technical Analysis: Interpret architectural floor plans, schematics, and engineering diagrams to pinpoint potential pest ingress and harborage points.
  • Develop Remediation Plans: Create remediation plans, which may include structural repairs, sealing conduits, foundation work, or other facility improvements to address root-cause risks.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as the primary project lead, coordinating effectively with internal teams (Store Management, Operations, Store Development, Engineering, Maintenance, Facilities, Food Safety) and external partners (Third-Party Pest Control Providers).
  • Project Oversight: Oversee the implementation of remediation plans, ensuring work meets specifications and supports long-term risk reduction.
  • Reporting & Tracking: Provide regular reports on progress, remediation status, and outcomes across target locations, with metrics focused on strengthening preventative controls and demonstrating measurable improvement.

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • A degree or diploma in Structural Engineering, Architectural Technology, or a related construction/building sciences field.
  • Extensive, demonstrated knowledge of commercial pest control, including Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and exclusion techniques.
  • Proven ability to read and comprehend complex technical documents, including blueprints, schematics, and construction plans.
  • Exceptional project management and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strong "root cause" mindset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally up to 50% of the time.
  • Valid Drivers License
