Responsibilities
- Lead the administration, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise Windows and Linux server environments.
- Administer, maintain, configure, and optimize enterprise Linux server environments, with a primary focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu, while supporting Windows Server environments as required.
- Install, configure, harden, maintain, and troubleshoot RHEL, Ubuntu, and Windows Server operating systems across physical and virtual enterprise environments.
- Perform Linux system administration activities including user and group management, file systems, permissions, services, processes, storage, networking, package management, repositories, logging, and system resource management.
- Manage system services and configurations using Linux administration tools and technologies including system, SSH, RPM/YUM/DNF, APT, LVM, and related enterprise Linux utilities.
- Perform system performance analysis, capacity planning, resource management, and troubleshooting to ensure infrastructure availability, scalability, and reliability.
- Deploy, administer, and maintain virtualized server environments utilizing VMware technologies.
- Support system architecture, operating system upgrades, migrations, technology refreshes, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux, Windows, virtualization, infrastructure, and application-related issues across enterprise environments.
- Plan, test, and deploy operating system, application, firmware, and security patches while minimizing operational impact and maintaining system availability.
- Perform vulnerability remediation and system-hardening activities for Linux and Windows systems in accordance with DISA STIGs, DoD cybersecurity requirements, and organizational cybersecurity policies.
- Review vulnerability and compliance findings and remediate identified vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and security deficiencies.
- Monitor enterprise servers and supporting infrastructure to identify performance, capacity, availability, and security issues and maintain operational readiness.
- Develop, implement, and maintain backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery capabilities for enterprise systems.
- Automate system administration, configuration management, patching, compliance, and operational tasks using Bash, Ansible, PowerShell, and other scripting or automation technologies.
- Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks, scripts, and standardized configurations to improve consistency, repeatability, security, and operational efficiency across server environments.
- Administer and support Windows Server systems, including Active Directory-integrated services, Group Policy, PowerShell-based administration, patching, system hardening, and troubleshooting.
- Develop and maintain system administration standards, build documentation, configuration baselines, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting procedures, and other technical documentation.
- Maintain accurate system configurations, inventories, operational documentation, and technical records in support of configuration management and cybersecurity requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior system administrators and other technical personnel as needed.
- Collaborate with network, cybersecurity, storage, backup, cloud, database, and application teams to implement, troubleshoot, and maintain integrated enterprise solutions.
- Evaluate infrastructure and automation technologies and recommend improvements that enhance system security, reliability, performance, manageability, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in incident response, system recovery, maintenance windows, and after-hours troubleshooting activities as required to support mission-critical systems.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of team and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
- DOD IAT Level II Certification is required
- DOD Top Secret clearance w/ SCI eligibility.
