Description & Requirements

Our Team

Bloomberg's Global Sustainability Office (GSO) is responsible for the development and execution of Bloomberg's enterprise-wide sustainability strategy, program implementation, and external reporting. The GSO collaborates across the business under a robust governance structure to set comprehensive ESG-related objectives, targets and action plans that drive the business toward its global sustainability commitments. The Strategy & Analysis function within the GSO is charged with translating business priorities into long-term sustainability strategies and driving cross-functional implementation of key sustainability programs.

What's The Role?

We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and action-oriented Sustainability Specialist to lead and advance Enterprise Sustainability Strategy and Analysis across Bloomberg's global business. This role will be responsible for developing and coordinating Bloomberg's decarbonization strategy while also supporting broader sustainability priorities, including ESG due diligence, operational sustainability, sustainability risk and opportunity assessment, governance, reporting alignment, and cross-functional program strategy.

This role will translate Bloomberg's sustainability objectives into practical, business-integrated strategies, roadmaps, governance structures, KPIs, and decision-making frameworks. While functional teams across the organization will own implementation of many initiatives, this role will provide strategic direction, enterprise coordination, performance management, and executive-level insight to help ensure progress against Bloomberg's sustainability commitments.

We'll Trust You To:
• Lead the strategy, governance, and enterprise coordination of priority sustainability initiatives, including Bloomberg's decarbonization strategy, ESG due diligence processes, sustainability risk and opportunity assessments, and other cross-functional programs aligned with enterprise sustainability goals and long-term value creation.
• Translate Bloomberg's sustainability and climate objectives into practical, business-integrated roadmaps with clear workstreams, milestones, dependencies, decision points, KPIs, and accountability mechanisms.
• Partner with functional owners across Engineering, Infrastructure, Procurement, Finance, Risk, Legal, Technology, Workplace Operations, and other business teams to align implementation with enterprise sustainability priorities.
• Develop business-integrated sustainability strategies that connect environmental and ESG objectives with operational feasibility, financial implications, risk management, regulatory expectations, reputational considerations, and long-term business value.
• Manage relationships with internal business units and external partners, acting as a subject matter expert and advisor to sustainability leadership on sustainability risks, opportunities, strategic alignment, and enterprise-wide dependencies.
• Develop, monitor, and refine sustainability and decarbonization performance indicators, integrating data into ESG disclosures, executive reporting, ESG due diligence processes, and business decision-making. Drive accountability through clear governance, reporting structures, and outcome tracking.
• Identify strategic gaps, risks, dependencies, and barriers to successful execution of sustainability priorities, and work with accountable business owners to define data-driven solutions, escalation paths, and corrective actions that enhance operational efficiency and environmental performance.
• Evaluate decarbonization and sustainability levers across relevant operational areas, including energy, real estate, procurement, supplier engagement, business travel, technology, waste, and other emissions or impact categories.
• Support proactive alignment with current and emerging environmental regulations, climate-related disclosure requirements, environmental management standards, and voluntary ESG frameworks such as TCFD, GRI, SASB, ISSB, and other relevant sustainability expectations.
• Utilize digital tools and data platforms to automate tracking, improve sustainability and emissions data accuracy, strengthen performance management, and elevate the operational excellence of sustainability programs.
• Design and facilitate enterprise-wide workshops, planning sessions, due diligence reviews, and stakeholder engagement forums to strengthen internal capabilities, promote ESG literacy, and embed sustainability into business planning and operational decision-making.
• Prepare executive-level materials, updates, and recommendations for sustainability leadership and governance bodies, clearly communicating progress, risks, trade-offs, and decisions required.
• Mentor team members across the GSO Strategy & Operations function as sustainability strategies, governance structures, and cross-functional programs are developed and operationalized.

You'll Need to Have:
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Public Policy, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in corporate sustainability, sustainability strategy, decarbonization strategy, sustainable operations, ESG due diligence, or a related field.
• Advanced understanding of ESG frameworks, climate-related reporting standards, greenhouse gas emissions accounting, decarbonization levers, sustainability due diligence, and global environmental regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex enterprise strategies, build consensus across functions, and influence senior leaders without direct authority.
• Experience developing or supporting enterprise sustainability strategies, decarbonization roadmaps, ESG due diligence processes, sustainability risk assessments, or other cross-functional sustainability programs.
• Strong understanding of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, GHG Protocol principles, emissions reduction pathways, and operational decarbonization levers.
• Experience building governance models, executive reporting processes, dashboards, and accountability mechanisms for complex enterprise programs.
• Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with experience interpreting sustainability, ESG, operational, and emissions data; developing KPIs; evaluating trade-offs; and integrating insights into business strategies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex sustainability, ESG, and decarbonization topics into clear recommendations for cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
• Proven success in program management, including roadmap development, governance design, implementation coordination, due diligence support, and performance monitoring for sustainability, ESG, or compliance-driven initiatives.

We'd Love to See:
• Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Economics, Public Policy, Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Experience with statistical modeling, applied data analysis, emissions forecasting, scenario analysis, due diligence analytics, or decarbonization pathway modeling using tools such as Excel, R, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
• Experience with ESG due diligence, sustainability risk assessment, marginal abatement cost analysis, renewable energy strategy, supplier decarbonization, climate risk assessment, or internal carbon pricing.
• Experience working in a global, matrixed organization where strategy is centrally coordinated and implementation is owned by distributed functional teams.
