Job Description

Supply Chain Manager

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will establish and manage the end-to-end external supply chain for Amgen’s new product portfolio. The Supply Chain Manager will drive supply planning, material readiness, and delivery of pre-clinical, clinical, and PPQ products manufactured at Amgen’s Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs).

The role will partner with Global Supply Chain, Product Teams, Amgen Contract Manufacturing, CMOs, and other cross-functional partners to design and implement supply chain solutions for new external manufacturing sites. The Supply Chain Manager will translate program demand and manufacturing requirements into executable supply plans, assess supply constraints and risks, and coordinate mitigation actions to enable timely decisions and reliable supply.

The goal for this position is to deliver supply in the right product quantity to the right location at the right time, while optimizing inventory and cost within contractual terms, eliminating stock-out and scrap exposure, and improving the overall supply risk profile.

  • Driving and supporting implementation of end-to-end supply chain solutions and Amgen integrated business processes at external manufacturing sites, including Plan-to-Stock, Order-to-Cash, and handoff processes with CMOs and internal functions.

  • Developing and maintaining end-to-end executable supply plans across applicable manufacturing stages, establishing aligned CMO forecasts, and conducting demand, capacity, inventory, and scenario analyses to identify constraints, evaluate options, and inform program decisions.

  • Assessing CMO supply chain readiness, including capabilities, manufacturing capacity, lead times, critical raw material requirements, and other constraints; coordinating mitigation actions to protect supply continuity.

  • Representing Supply Chain in the development, review, and negotiation of applicable supply chain terms in CMO contracts, in partnership with Procurement, Legal, and other relevant functions.

  • Managing or overseeing timely, compliant execution of applicable site-level supply chain operations and physical and financial flows, including inventory, production and material orders, purchase orders, invoices, and material movement coordination.

  • Establishing and maintaining applicable SAP and RapidResponse master data and ensuring accurate, compliant system transactions.

  • Ensuring applicable operating standards and supply chain requirements for technology transfer and new product introduction are implemented and sustained at managed sites.

  • Partnering across Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, Tax, Process Development, Operations, Global Distribution, and other functions to develop and communicate analyses, recommendations, and presentations to cross-functional and leadership audiences.

  • Serving as a supply chain representative for change controls, special projects, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Key activities

Depending on the assigned product portfolio, program stage, site model, and functional ownership, the AXP Supply Chain Manager may carry out, coordinate, or support the following activities in accordance with established processes and procedures.

Production Planning

  • Establish and maintain applicable SAP and RapidResponse master data, including site, material, and BOM setup; change-control assessments; and planning parameters.

  • Collaborate with planning groups and CMOs to translate demand into executable production plans.

  • Plan and allocate supply across applicable manufacturing stages, including raw materials, intermediates, DS, DP, and/or FDP.

  • Monitor production schedules and coordinate resolution of risks to schedule adherence and supply continuity.

  • Conduct capacity analyses, identify constraints, and coordinate actions to support production ramp-up and supply readiness.

  • Execute production orders, material transfer orders, and purchase orders, and review and approve invoices, in accordance with established processes.

Raw Material Management

  • Support development and execution of internal and CMO raw material ordering strategies, including order quantities, delivery timing, and inventory or safety-stock considerations.

  • Partner with relevant Amgen functions and CMOs to assess raw material readiness, identify constraints, and coordinate resolution of supply risks.

  • Establish and maintain applicable raw material master data.

  • Manage or support raw material purchase orders, invoices, issue resolution, shipment coordination, and storage-space planning, as applicable.

Logistics and Storage Readiness

  • Identify shipment requirements and schedule needs with origin sites, destination sites, CMOs, and raw material vendors; coordinate shipment-readiness activities to support supply continuity.

  • Assess logistics and storage readiness, including storage capacity and warehouse readiness; identify constraints and coordinate resolution with Global Distribution, Quality, sites, and CMOs.

  • Identify needs for new or revised GMP shipping lanes and coordinate requests through Global Distribution processes.

  • Provide supply-chain input to the review of import/export documentation and coordinate issue resolution with Global Distribution, Trade Operations, Quality, sites, carriers, and CMOs, as applicable.
