Reports to: Director of Services & Special Projects

JOB SUMMARY:

The Superintendent of Services & Special Projects serves as the senior field leader responsible for the safe, productive, and consistent field execution of Kearney Electric's Services & Special Projects Division. This role provides leadership and oversight of field operations, ensuring projects are properly staffed, planned, coordinated, and executed in alignment with project schedules, labor expectations, quality standards, safety requirements, and customer commitments.

This position is responsible for translating project commitments into successful field execution through effective manpower planning, job readiness, production management, field leadership development, and accountability. The Superintendent of Services & Special Projects works closely with the Director of Services & Special Projects, Project Managers, Estimating, Safety, and other operational leaders to identify field risks, resolve constraints, and maintain strong project performance.

While this position collaborates with Kearney's Electrical Services and Data Low Voltage Service teams, its primary responsibility is field operations and execution within Services & Special Projects rather than the day-to-day management of the individual service functions. The Superintendent will mentor field leaders and will foster the Core Values while building relationships with all employees, including any Direct Reports, to align with company's strategic vision and the company's THREE COMMITMENTS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for field operations within Services & Special Projects Division.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop General Foremen, Foremen, Leads, and other field leadership assigned to Services & Special Projects.
  • Oversee manpower planning and workforce allocation across Services & Special Projects to ensure appropriate staffing based on project schedules, priorities, skill requirements, and workload.
  • Partner with the Director of Services & Special Projects and Project Managers to develop short-term and long-term manpower forecasts.
  • Ensure field leaders have appropriate manpower, materials, equipment, information, drawings, and resources before work is scheduled to begin.
  • Establish consistent expectations for field planning, productivity, quality, safety, documentation, and accountability across Services & Special Projects.
  • Monitor field productivity and labor performance and proactively address projects that are not meeting established labor or production expectations.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to evaluate project progress, field leadership, manpower utilization, quality, safety, organization, and overall job performance.
  • Participate in project handoff, kickoff, planning, scheduling, cost-to-complete, and project review meetings as appropriate.
  • Partner with Project Managers to ensure field execution remains aligned with project scope, schedule, labor budget, customer expectations, and company standards.
  • Identify field constraints, manpower issues, constructability concerns, material delays, coordination issues, and other risks before they negatively impact project performance.
  • Establish and maintain consistent field operating procedures and expectations across Services & Special Projects.
  • Drive accountability for labor tracking, time entry, production reporting, daily documentation, material management, and other required field processes.
  • Ensure General Foremen and Foremen are effectively planning work, setting expectations, communicating with crews, and holding employees accountable for performance.
  • Develop field leadership succession plans and identify employees with the potential to advance into Lead, Foreman, General Foreman, and other leadership positions.
  • Provide coaching, training, mentoring, and performance feedback to strengthen field leadership capabilities.
  • Partner with People & Culture and Operations leadership regarding employee performance, attendance, development, disciplinary matters, and workforce planning.
  • Partner with Safety leadership to ensure compliance with company safety programs, OSHA requirements, jobsite-specific requirements, and established safe work practices.
  • Promote proactive safety leadership and ensure field supervisors consistently conduct required pre-task planning, toolbox talks, job hazard analyses, and safety meetings.
  • Ensure workmanship and installation quality consistently meet Kearney Electric standards, project requirements, applicable codes, and customer expectations.
  • Assist field leadership with resolving difficult project conditions, scheduling conflicts, manpower challenges, customer concerns, and other operational issues.
  • Coordinate with Warehouse, Purchasing, Fleet, Safety, and other support departments to ensure field teams have the resources required to successfully execute work.
  • Promote effective communication between field leadership, Project Management, and department leadership.
  • Support project closeout, punch-list completion, manpower reduction, and transition of field resources between projects.
  • Help establish and track field operational KPIs related to productivity, labor performance, safety, quality, schedule performance, manpower utilization, and field leadership development.
  • Promote consistency and continuous improvement across Services & Special Projects field operations.
  • Serve as a visible field leader and positive representative of Kearney Electric with employees, customers, general contractors, and project partners.
