Chipton-Ross is seeking a Structural Engineer 3 for a contract opportunity in El Segundo, CA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelor's (STEM) Degree with experience in medium to large scale fabrication and/or production fabrication including composites, metallic, and/or manufacturing operations and 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Active Professional Engineering License (preferably from California)
  • Analysis of simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEA
  • Experience with structural stress analysis techniques, concepts and practices
  • Computer Aided Design Tools - Experience with computer aided design tools and systems (CATIA/NX).
  • Engineering Drawings & Specs - Basic ability to create, read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications in accordance with ASME 14.5. Basic level understanding of GD&T
  • Able to communicate with various levels of leadership, must be able to coordinate and resolve interpersonal and technical problems and must work well either in a team or independently with limited guidance
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance as well as special program access


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Looking for a Structural Engineer 3 to support our Tooling department on-site at El Segundo. We are looking for an engineer who has an active Professional Engineer (PE) License with a structural analysis background to assist in generating and certifying engineering analysis packages to demonstrate compliance of tooling fixtures to safety standards and customer requirements.

Responsibilities:

The candidate shall analyze, research and provide input on product design, or operation of product involving metals and varying materials. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability, stress fatigue, damage tolerance, durability & design allowables. In this role you will assist in the design of industrial tools, assembly structures, such as assembly work stands, lifting jigs, composite dies, drill fixtures, machine attachments and equipment, required for production or experimental use in an aerospace fabrication environment.

The candidate is expected to be familiar with current fabrication/machine shop practices to provide guidance to engineers. It is essential that this person have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.

Essential functions:
  • Perform structural analysis via hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN software
  • Create reports in support of completed analysis as well as review reports of others
  • Concise presentation and explanation of structural issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.
  • Engage with other team members in meetings, 1:1's and others in order to provide the right solution to complex engineering problems
  • Evaluation of engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications
  • Static and dynamic analysis in support of Tooling fixtures and structures
  • Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standards
  • Develop and conceptualize designs using 3D modeling tools including NX & CATIA
  • Create drawings for fabrication via CAD in compliance with ASME Y14.1-5 standards for fabrication.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with aircraft structural analysis or design
  • Direct experience with Tooling mechanics and analysis relative to stress
  • Experience with fabrication applying such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements.
  • Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years


REQUIRED EDUCATION

Bachelor's (STEM) Degree is required.

School must be accredited.

WORK HOURS

Full-Time 9/80 work week. This role is on site full time in El Segundo, CA.
