Overview

We are seeking a full-time Systems Architect 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership in project execution and design of new or existing systems or applications across multiple functional, system, or module areas.

Essential Functions
  • Develops and designs system architecture
  • Develops understanding of performance of system with current limitations or bottlenecks
  • Leads system performance analysis utilizing trends, system metrics, and current business transactions, traffic, or usage through the system. From this analysis diagnose or make recommendations for improvements
  • Understands future business growth needs and determines impacts and risks to the system
  • Understands project or release requirements and determine impacts and risks to the system
  • Provides cost effective architecture recommendations to support the system's growth, maintain system stability and provide a good user performance experience: These recommendations could be infrastructure changes, software to support the application, or configuration recommendations. Solutions or recommendations should also take into account scalability for future growth needs.
  • Researches and identifies new technologies to improve system performance and availability.
  • Leads or assists technology and product assessments, performing evaluations as required and making acquisition recommendations.
  • Provides load testing requirements and participates in load testing for releases or any targeted load testing to evaluate performance or determining capacity for future growth.
  • Creates and maintains architecture related artifacts for existing and new solutions.
  • Identifies and develops improvements to procedures and processes to satisfy system architecture requirements and streamline operations.
  • Business-wide leader in project execution and design of new or existing systems and/or applications
  • Conducts requirements gathering/design sessions for new functionality and customizations
  • Gathers and documents complex requirements for business needs and independently determines complex solution designs across multiple functional/systems/module areas
  • Translates, negotiates and communicates architectural and development concepts across development teams
  • Develops project documentation including statements of work, detailed project plans, architecture designs, detailed implementation plans, deployment plans, project test plans and operational training materials
  • Completes complex troubleshooting and determines appropriate course of action to deliver actionable results
  • Demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin's business model including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales & Marketing
  • Develops reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Participate in project definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another relevant field and 9 years relevant experience Required or
  • Experienced in designing, building, and maintaining storage systems for block, file and object storage technologies
  • Experienced in designing, building, and maintaining storage systems for block, file and object storage technologies
  • Advanced knowledge of SAN, NAS, Object Storage, Software Defined Storage, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NVMe, and storage networking technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful implementation of technology solutions
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a large team or departmental setting
  • Manage multiple storage and infrastructure projects while driving continuous improvement, automation and operational excellence.
  • Previous experience working in a team environment
