Full Job Description
Location: San Jose, CA - Hybrid

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be working closely with our mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to develop force sensing and haptics actuator modules and help bring them to mass production. You will be working closely with different OEMs on next generation products such as Laptop, Mobile phones, Automotive steering wheels & smart surfaces, Fitness Trackers and Industrial display panels, etc. Your role may include mechanical design, small scale prototyping, DFM, testing and characterization and root-cause analysis. We also expect to extend the job scope to finite element analysis, electromagnetic simulation and optimization, provided long term training is given to the candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute electro-mechanical designs from concept to fabrication backed by thorough engineering analysis.


  • Assist in fabrication, assembly, and testing activities from Proof-of-Concepts to mass production projects.


  • Collaborate closely with business and engineering teams during the product development cycle to translate customer input into successful, cutting-edge products.


  • Travel to manufacturing partners (domestic and international) to help bring up production line.


  • Travel to customer locations (domestic and international) to provide technical support.


  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and electromagnetic simulation and optimization on module designs in order to optimize performance and the HMI experience. (with training provided at Semtech)


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of work experience designing real world products


  • Creative problem solving in designing electro-mechanical assemblies from concept to fabrication


  • Working knowledge of various fabrication methods such as CNC machining, injection molding, 3D printing, sheet metal stamping, and assembly techniques for consumer and industrial products


  • Excellent skill in 3D CAD modeling mechanical drawing


  • Good understanding of materials, structural mechanics, sensors and actuators (esp. electromagnetic actuators)


  • Familiarity with DFM (design for manufacturing) and performance and reliability testing


  • Consumer electronics experience a plus


  • Working knowledge of electronics and circuits


  • Hands-on experience with fabrication and assembly tools (including 3D printing, laser cutting, etc...)


  • Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools such as COMSOL will be a big plus


  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
