Senior Staff Accountant

The Senior Staff Accountant performs duties in Accounting and Finance. They manage various accounting, finance and administrative functions at their Operating Company (OpCo) on behalf of Vistar. They work closely with managers and leadership throughout their OpCo as well as Corporate Vistar as needed to discuss, understand and review the financial impact of functions within their scope. They will need to be able to interpret, evaluate and explain the impact of these functions on financial reports, like the Profit & Loss (P&L) Statement, Balance Sheet (B/S) and other various financial reports. They will prepare and submit journal entries, analytics, and reports to various levels of management as required by the business. They will be responsible for overseeing and evaluating complicated financial functions and tasks with accuracy, analysis and critical thinking. As a senior on the team, the Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for leading projects, new process development and various teams, as needed. May require at times learning cross functional tasks and then providing support or training to other team members or departments.

Functions as a team member within the department and organization as required and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company. The Staff Accountant reports directly to the OpCo Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
  • Responsible for certain Accounting and Finance functions for OpCo. Is able to analyze, explain and process improve within these functions. Possibly including, but not limited to, request for adjustment/customer credits (RFA's), accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), inventory adjustments, payroll, or other financial impacting functions.
  • Creates, analyzes, and interprets reporting for functional responsibilities.
  • Leads complex projects, process development, training, and team development.
  • Proactive evaluation of process improvement and efficiencies throughout their department.
  • Prepares Journal Entries (JE's).
  • Assists with month-end analysis, review, reporting and financial results for OpCo.
  • Oversees, supports, and/or backup for some administrative functions as needed. Possibly including, but not limited to, front desk, phones, scanning, tracking driver logs, administering driver bags (documentation, keys, checks, etc), scheduling maintenance, ordering/monitoring supplies, and other administrative functions.
  • Meets with various departments, managers and leadership to discuss, interpret, and gather information to be able to perform their duties for this position.
  • Ensures compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting deadlines within the scope of their position and assists with overall OpCo compliance.
  • Assists with review of P&L, B/S and other various financial reports throughout the month.
  • Works with management to ensure that functions within the scope for this position are Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliant.
  • May need to cross-training, backfill and/or perform similar duties for other OpCo's as needed by the business.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 3-5 years of General Ledger and Financial Accounting experience
• Strong computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel required.

Preferred Qualifications
• Masters/MBA or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• 4+ years of Financial Accounting or Operations Accounting experience (preferably in food distribution environment)
