GENERAL PURPOSEThe Senior Accountant is a key contributor on the finance team, responsible for the accuracy and integrity of core accounting processes and for the technical judgment that a General Accountant role does not require. This role owns significant portions of the month-end close, prepares and reviews complex journal entries and reconciliations, applies GAAP to non-routine transactions, and partners directly with the VP of Finance on reporting, audit, and process improvement. The Senior Accountant is also expected to review the work of, and provide guidance to, less experienced accounting staff.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Own preparation and/or review of monthly and annual financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and GAAP compliance, including analytical review of results prior to close.
- Lead key components of the monthly close process, including preparation and review of complex journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations; identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Research and apply GAAP to non-routine or judgment-based transactions; document technical accounting positions and memos as needed.
- Oversee AR processes end-to-end, including revenue capture accuracy, customer payment application, account maintenance/adjustments, and resolution of escalated customer account issues.
- Oversee AP invoice processing workflow (Concur to SAP) and ensure timely, accurate disbursements; review and approve transactions processed by other team members.
- Manage company credit card expense program (Concur) and lead month-end reconciliation, including review of team-prepared reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain debt schedules and other complex accounting schedules; perform ad-hoc financial analysis for the VP of Finance and leadership team.
- Partner with the Credit department on bad debt write-offs and past-due account resolution, applying independent judgment on more complex or higher-risk accounts.
- Own sales tax filing and compliance reporting, including franchise/income tax filings in select states; monitor for changes in multi-state filing requirements.
- Process and review costing transactions, including finalizing and posting standard costs into the ERP system.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and tax preparers; prepare audit schedules and respond to information requests.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls; lead or contribute to process-improvement and systems projects.
- Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for areas of ownership.
- Review the work of, mentor, and train Staff/General Accountants; serve as a resource for questions on accounting treatment and procedure.
- Coordinate cross-functionally with other departments on accounting matters as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, including the ability to research and apply guidance to non-routine transactions.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office; experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and expense platforms (Concur).
- Demonstrated ability to review the work of others and provide constructive, accurate feedback.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and sound decision-making on complex or ambiguous accounting matters.
- Ability to interact with and influence personnel at all levels in the organization.
- Ability to work discreetly and with sound judgment regarding confidential information.
- Ability to work with figures and detail with speed and accuracy under time pressure, particularly during close.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines, including leading small projects.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.
- Ability to interact professionally with people outside the business as required for the job.
OTHER FUNCTIONS- Cross-train as required.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES- May directly supervise or functionally lead one or more Staff/General Accountants, including review of their work and day-to-day guidance, depending on team structure and experience.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE NECESSARY- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including demonstrated ownership of month-end close and technical accounting matters.
- Experience reviewing the work of others or informally mentoring less experienced staff preferred.
8) WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL SKILLS NEEDED- Indoor office environment.
- Ability to sit/stand for 8 hours while typing on a computer keyboard.
- Ability to speak articulately for 8 hours.
- Hand/eye coordination and visual acuity in near/mid ranges.
- Manual dexterity using both hands and fingers to type on a keyboard and dial phone, reaching with arms/hands.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
