Full Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to own and drive technical direction across our identity stack. In this role, you will design, build, and operate distributed systems that handle massive throughput with high availability requirements. You will work across multiple services and geographically distributed teams, driving architectural coherence and engineering excellence. You will also collaborate closely with adjacent teams across the broader identity ecosystem, ensuring our platform scales to meet the needs of our largest and most complex customers.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience building production services at scale, strong judgment on technical trade-offs, and the ability to influence engineering direction beyond their immediate team. You should be comfortable navigating ambiguity, owning problems end-to-end, and mentoring engineers to raise the collective bar. This is a high-impact role where your technical decisions will directly shape how organizations worldwide secure access to their cloud environments.

Key job responsibilities

* Design, develop, and operate distributed systems and services at AWS scale, ensuring high availability, low latency, and security.

* Provide technical leadership across the Identity Center stack, driving architectural coherence and engineering best practices across multiple services and teams.

* Own technical designs end-to-end: author design documents, lead technical reviews, and drive implementation of complex, cross-cutting features.

* Write high-quality, well-tested, production-ready code and set the standard for engineering excellence within the team.

* Identify and resolve complex technical challenges that span service boundaries, driving root cause analysis and long-term solutions for systemic issues.

* Mentor and develop engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and technical leadership.

* Collaborate with product managers, principal engineers, and partner teams across the Identity Center organization to define roadmaps and deliver customer-facing features.

* Contribute to operational excellence: participate in on-call rotations, improve operational tooling, and drive down operational burden through automation.

* Influence technical direction beyond your immediate team, contributing to architecture decisions and engineering standards across the organization.

About the team

AWS IAM Identity Center is part of the AWS Identity organization, responsible for building the secure authentication and access management foundation for all AWS customers. Our team builds the services that power workforce single sign-on, permission management, and identity governance at massive scale.

We are a geographically distributed team of engineers who value collaboration, technical excellence, and customer obsession. We operate in a high-trust environment where engineers own their systems end-to-end, from design through production operations. We ship frequently, iterate based on customer feedback, and invest heavily in operational health so that our engineers spend their time building rather than firefighting.

We are committed to inclusion and to growing every engineer on the team. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we actively invest in mentorship, knowledge sharing, and career development. We believe the best engineering happens when diverse perspectives come together to solve hard problems, and we hire accordingly.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life & AD&D insurance), Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and other resources to improve health and well-being. We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those interviewed will be advised as to hiring status.
