Full Job Description
The Merck Genome Sciences (GS) Immunology translational model system group within the Department of Data, AI, and Genome Sciences (DAGS) is seeking a motivated experimental biologist or pharmacologist to help advance biomarker discovery in Cambridge, MA. Partnering closely with Discovery Immunology, our team develops human-relevant translational assays in support of precision medicine strategies. In this hands-on Scientist I/II role, you will work with immunology scientists, automation engineers, translational researchers, and biobank teams to build and execute scalable, reproducible functional assays using primary human immune cells and patient-derived biospecimens.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute functional assays using primary human immune cells and translational model systems.
  • Collaborate with automation engineers to build robust, scalable, and reproducible assay workflows.
  • Support biobank management activities, including biospecimen handling, inventory oversight, sample QC, and integration of patient-derived materials into discovery workflows.
  • Work alongside biobank and translational science teams to enable efficient sample access, tracking, and utilization.
  • Support biomarker discovery workflows through experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Present research findings and data to project teams and scientific leadership.

Education

  • Master's degree (MS) or Doctorate (PhD) in molecular, cellular, immunological, or related biological sciences.

Experience

  • MS with 8+ years or PhD with 2+ years of experience in molecular, cellular, or immunological sciences.
  • Proven hands-on experience in laboratory research and assay development.
  • Demonstrated experience working in collaborative, cross-functional research environments.
  • Experience with human immune cell culture, primary cell assays, and translational functional readouts preferred.
  • Experience working with automation, high-throughput assay platforms, or biobank sample management preferred.
