Sr. Human Resources Generalist

Who We Are Looking For:

This is a professional opportunity for a business minded, hands-on HR professional who has demonstrated they are able to execute projects, make an impact, and is a true change agent. Under the guidance of the Director Human Resources, the Sr. HR Generalist will lead and execute talent acquisition/staffing, employee relations, coaching and counseling for the employee population to maximize the contribution of our associates. This individual will work within a small team and lead and/or co-lead various projects in areas such as supervisor skills training, manpower analysis and employment, recognition and employee investigations. Based in Harvey, IL, this individual will be a valuable member providing HR support for Safety and Infrastructure with initial focus on Harvey (IL) Operations.

What you'll do:

  • Manage Talent acquisition process for salaried and hourly associates including recruiting, screening and interviewing applicants to fill requisitions, create and update job descriptions as needed, train hiring managers on Atkore's Recruitment and Selection process.
  • Implement pro-active approaches pertaining to employee hiring and selection, and compensation in support of the goals and strategic objectives.
  • Manage manpower planning and job movement related activities including processing employee data changes and interface with payroll on payroll changes and employment related actions.
  • Use evidence and data to identify people priorities for the business and address future workforce needs.
  • Steward and drive business and employee engagement and alignment, focusing on creating a positive associate relations environment and culture.
  • Investigate and help to resolve Employee Relations issues and complaints, including Compliance Hotline investigations.
  • Support labor relations and grievance process.
  • Partner with HR and leadership teams to drive talent management and performance management, which includes succession planning, training and development, performance review completion, etc.
  • Align and contribute to the company's Lean methodologies as well as participating in business or HR GEMBA walks and board metrics contribution
  • Serve as a business partner focusing on brokering HR solutions
  • Collaborate with other HR functional areas in delivering quality support to the client groups.
  • Travel to alternate locations intermittently to provide HR support.
  • All other duties as assigned.


What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field.
  • 5+ years of Human Resources experience.
  • Excellent computer skills with ability to analyze information and create reports.
  • Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment, preferred but not required.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to come in early or occasionally work off shift hours to provide support to 2nd and 3rd shift as needed.


Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Gain an understanding of your role, the HR organization, and the organization you support.
  • Gain an understanding of the training materials and procedures your team owns.
  • Become familiar with HR standard work practices and expectations.


Within 6-months, you'll:

  • Establish strong working relationships with the leadership team you support as well as build rapport with employees.
  • Be leading the recruitment process for the salaried and hourly openings at your sites.
  • Identify opportunities to improve standard processes in employee and labor relations.
  • Identify ways to strengthen the team's commitment to Atkore's core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.


Within 12-months, you'll:

  • Have meaningful performance conversations and coaching sessions with your site leaders.
  • Lead development and training for supervision and frontline associates.
  • Perform as backup to site HR across Safety and Infrastructure Operations Human Resources team.
  • Be able to resolve any issues quickly and safely.


As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $81,200 - $111,650. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
