Position Title:

Senior Director, Communications

Reporting to Title:

SVP, Marketing

Summary:

The Senior Director, Communications will develop and execute the comprehensive communications strategy for Alexander Wang Brand, positioning the brand within culture and building strategic editorial relationships. This role is responsible for owning the full lifecycle of brand storytelling from developing compelling narratives and securing editorial placements to orchestrating brand activations and events that generate significant earned media. The successful candidate will report to the SVP, Marketing and lead the communications team in executing integrated campaigns that establish and reinforce the brand position in fashion and culture.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategic Communications & Brand Positioning:
  • Develop and execute communications strategy that positions Alexander Wang within culture and contemporary fashion discourse
  • Own brand narrative and positioning across seasons in partnership with the SVP, Marketing and Head of Design to translate product and brand vision into compelling media stories
  • Ensure consistent brand alignment across all communications channels: editorial, events, partnerships, and collaborations
  • Identify and capitalize on cultural moments and opportunities to authentically amplify the brand


Editorial & Press Relations:
  • Cultivate and maintain direct relationships with key editors and journalists at tier-one fashion, culture, and lifestyle publications (print, digital, broadcast)
  • Develop and execute strategic press campaigns for collections, collaborations, brand initiatives, and executive visibility
  • Lead all press strategy, including media pitch development, press release creation, and executive positioning (quotes, interviews, speaking opportunities)
  • Review and filter press requests for editorial placements, speaking engagements, interviews, and philanthropic opportunities; prioritize requests aligned with brand strategy
  • Oversee management of press relationships and agencies (e.g., Gusto Luxe China; Pred PR Japan)
  • Maintain and oversee credit reports and media coverage distribution to company leadership


Brand Activations & Events:
  • Develop comprehensive strategy for fashion shows, brand activations, and experiential events that amplify brand positioning and generate earned media
  • Oversee all fashion show logistics and media coverage, including guestlist strategy, VIP relations, media attendance, seating, and day-of execution
  • Identify, secure, and manage strategic brand sponsorships and partnerships that elevate events and create co-marketing opportunities
  • Lead conceptual development of brand activations and collaborations that generate cultural relevance and press coverage


Editorial Loans & Collateral Management:
  • Oversee all editorial loans and sample distribution to ensure strategic placement and coverage in key publications
  • Lead development of all press collateral, including lookbooks, press kits, photography, and brand materials that support media outreach


Relationship Building & Network:
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with media, fashion editors, culture influencers, industry leaders, and brand collaborators
  • Serve as primary brand ambassador in culture and editorial circles; represent Alexander Wang at industry events and cultivate the brand reputation
  • Leverage personal network and cultural knowledge to identify partnership and activation opportunities


Team & Budget Management:
  • Lead and manage the communications/PR team, including direct reports and cross-functional collaboration with Marketing, Design, and Merchandising
  • Manage press department budget and approve spending for events, agencies, and communications initiatives
  • Oversee samples management, closet tracking, and press asset organization


In compliance with the New York City salary transparency requirements, the potential salary for this position is from $150,000 to $200,000, which represents a range commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills required.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or marketing
  • Minimum 3+ years in a Director-level or equivalent leadership role
  • Proven track record of developing and executing integrated communications strategies that generated significant earned media and brand positioning
  • Demonstrated expertise in fashion, luxury, or culture communications with deep knowledge of the fashion media landscape
  • Established relationships with key editors and journalists at major fashion/culture publications
  • Experience leading successful brand activations, events, and experiential campaigns that generated media coverage and cultural impact
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite
  • Strong copywriting and creative ideation skills
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills
  • Strategic mindset with ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience managing and coaching communications/PR teams
  • Experience at luxury fashion brands or disruptor fashion/culture agencies
  • Background in fast-growth companies with ability to scale communications
  • Direct experience securing editorial coverage in tier-one international publications
