Position OverviewAs a Software Engineer - Full Stack Java within PNC's Lending Technology organization, you can be based in Birmingham, AL or Pittsburgh, PA.
Job DescriptionThe Full Stack Software Engineer is a hands-on delivery role embedded in a specific crew, responsible for designing, building, testing, and supporting both frontend and backend components of web applications.
This role focuses on execution and delivery, not framework ownership or cross-crew governance. It is a core contributor role within a crew, acting as a technical anchor for complex stories.
Core Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end application features
- Implement Frontend UI using Harmony (Angular), and Backend services using Java / Micron / APIs
- Ensure features meet functional, performance, and security expectations
- Owns delivery of complex features within the crew
- Breaks down epics into implementable stories
- Provides technical guidance to mid- and junior-level developers
- Develop and maintain backend logic and integrations
- Build and consume RESTful APIs
- Ensure proper data handling, validation, and error management
- Build UI components and microapps using Angular
- Implement UI logic aligned with framework standards
- Consume shared components and follow established frontend patterns
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests
- Participate in production issue triage and resolution
- Follow SDLC and Agile delivery practices
Preferred Skills & Experience- Strong front end development experience with Angular
- Solid understanding of: Component-based architecture; State management; UI performance considerations
- Proficiency in backend Java development
- Experience building RESTful services
- Understanding of service-to-service communication and data flows
- Experience integrating with internal and external APIs
- Understanding of API contracts, versioning, and error handling
- Working knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases
- Ability to design efficient queries and data access patterns
- Strong grasp of: Clean code principles; Code reviews; Testing strategies
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues
- Comfortable debugging across frontend and backend layers
- Familiarity with: Micron (backend framework); PNC API standards; Ledger components (UI dependencies)
- Exposure to: Containerized applications; Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms
- Understanding of build pipelines and automated testing
- Awareness of security scanning and compliance checks, and audit constraints
- Shares knowledge through code reviews and design discussions
- Prior experience in regulated or financial environments
- Comfortable owning features from design through production support
