Job Summary:
Cat Digital is the digital and technology arm of Caterpillar Inc., responsible for bringing world class digital capabilities to our products and services. This position is on the API Management team within Cat Digital. The team is responsible for the process, controls, and tools that support API development, security, publishing, consumption, monitoring and governance of APIs on Apigee platform.

What You Will Do:

  • Designing, modifying, developing, writing and implementing software programming applications for target system using agile methods.

  • Acquiring client requirements; resolving workflow problems through automation optimization.

  • Writing source codes for new applications, and/or generating and enhancing code samples for existing applications.

  • Utilizing automated testing tools to perform the testing and maintenance.

What You Will Have:

  • Software Integration Engineering: Knowledge of software integration processes and functions; ability to design, develop and maintain interfaces and linkage to alternative platforms and software packages.

  • Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.

  • Software Product Design/Architecture: Knowledge of software product design; ability to convert market requirements into the software product design.

  • Software Product Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of technical aspects of a software products; ability to design, configure and integrate technical aspects of software products.

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Modern API and AI engineering practices: RESTful API design, OpenAPI/Swagger contract-first development, API linting/governance (e.g., Spectral), automated regression/contract testing, OWASP API security awareness, and the ability to design and develop AI agents/copilots and AI-assisted workflows using responsible AI practices.

  • Hands-on engineering with Apigee Edge and Apigee X: build and operate API proxies/shared flows for REST/SOAP, including transformations and fault handling.

  • Lead Edge 12 X migrations: inventory and dependency mapping (KVMs, target servers, certificates), risk/effort sizing, and migration wave planning.

  • Gateway security and traffic management: OAuth2/JWT, API keys, rate limiting/quotas, caching, and custom logic (e.g., JavaScript callouts).

  • GCP networking for API platforms: VPC/subnets, DNS, firewalling, hybrid connectivity, and load-balancing/routing patterns to Apigee X.

  • Security on GCP: IAM/service accounts (least privilege), TLS/mTLS and certificate rotation, plus edge protection (e.g., WAF/Cloud Armor).

  • Platform reliability and infrastructure automation: Terraform/IaC for GCP components, dashboards/alerts (SLOs/SLIs), and incident response to support stable API platform operations.

Summary Pay Range:

$89,210.00 - $144,960.00
