About the job

As members of the Caching SRE team within AI Foundations, we build and operate Google's core caching infrastructure, delivering ultra-low latency and zero-downtime reliability at planetary scale. We provide SRE partnerships for high performance services that underpin Search, Gemini, Workspace, Ads, YouTube and many other critical systems.

We operate as a globally distributed organization. We embed with our development partners to engineer responsiveness, resilience and best practices into the product. Our goal is to systematically reduce the cost of operating Google's caching infrastructure while meeting the growing demands of Google's business and its customers.

In this role, you will lead a team positioned directly on the critical path of Google's most vital systems. You will require high standards, operational excellence and serve as a foundation for driving massive business impact and continued career growth. You will have the flexibility to build deep domain expertise in a single system, or to drive broad architectural initiatives as an infrastructure generalist.

As a leader, you will foster a culture of engineering excellence and define the technical strategy for a high-performing team. Acting as the primary SRE liaison from design through delivery, you will architect resilient, automated production environments that meet stringent Service Level Objectives (SLOs). You will lead the team through some of Google's most pressing challenges.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $207000 - $301000 (USD) 20% bonus target equity benefits

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of SREs. Drive technical execution, task management, and project delivery.
  • Drive service reliability and performance, including end-to-end availability, low latency, high performance, and efficiency of critical systems in close partnership with Product Management and Engineering teams.
  • Lead the team in building automation to prevent problem recurrence, reduce toil, and improve system reliability.
  • Advocate and uphold Google's blameless SRE postmortem culture and drive production excellence.
  • Perform, manage and improve on-call rotations, spanning multiple continents, ensuring healthy on-call practices and response. Be part of a Tier-1 on-call rotation (5 min on-call response time).
