Senior Software Quality Engineer

Boeing Defense, Space, & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Quality Engineer to join our Software Quality Engineering team in El Segundo, CA!

This position will be located primarily in El Segundo, but may require additional support in Seal Beach, CA.

As a member of this BDS Software Quality team, you have the autonomy and responsibility to work with programs to assure the required processes are used for developing, controlling, and verifying software products, whether developed by Boeing or provided by suppliers.

The successful candidate for this position will have a broad background in software development practices, tools and processes combined with a passion for advocating First Time Quality strategies. Experience and knowledge of quality standards (e.g. AS9100 / AS9115) is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate will be a team player, self-motivated, and able to quickly learn the responsibilities of the position. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, are crucial for success. Candidates should possess resilience and the ability to provide and receive constructive feedback. Position Responsibilities:
  • Initiates new organization policies, procedures, infrastructure and metrics
  • Leads process improvement activities
  • Plans and develops complex proposals and cost estimates
  • Leads software quality reviews of large-scale, complex supplier proposals
  • Leads review and approval of software life cycle documents and program products
  • Establishes risk assessment criteria to determine audit requirements
  • Plans and leads multi-agency audits of software engineering processes and associated support functions
  • Evaluates new technologies for configuration management tools and processes and makes recommendations for implementation
  • Works with senior management to establish process improvement goals
  • Plans software quality test activities and completion of test readiness activities
  • Ensures integrity of test process
  • Verifies test results
  • Leads initial reconciliation of complex, highly integrated software data products
  • Participates in development of industry standards for software procurement
  • Develops program specific software quality requirements for flow down to suppliers
  • Plans and verifies acceptability of supplier's software quality systems and programs
  • Performs software acceptance and delivery activities for high risk or high value procurements
  • Analyzes organization level data to identify trends in non-compliances and initiates organization level corrective and preventive actions
  • Reviews and approves corrective and preventive action plans
  • Verifies effectiveness of corrective and preventive action plans
  • Reports non-conformance and corrective action data to appropriate management
  • Perform Earned Value Management (EVM) and Cost Account Management (CAM) activities.
  • Provides consultative direction to Software Quality Engineers

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 10+ years of experience working in a project where various software development methodologies are being utilized
  • 10+ years of experience in a Software Quality role
  • 10+ years of experience working independently to develop, modify and document actions to assure problem resolution and/or to implement corrective action and/or preventive action


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 5+ years of experience conducting/leading Quality Management Systems (QMS) auditing
  • 5+ years of Software Quality Engineering experience supporting software with AS9115, DO-178, and/or MIL-STD-882E requirements
  • 5+ years of experience with configuration management and collaboration tools such as (or similar to) Git, Jira, Collaborator, Bitbucket and Beyond Compare
  • 5+ years of Software development experience in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process including code reviews and automated DevOps processes/tools
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) is highly preferred
