Full Job Description
About this role:

Commercial Navigation helps fleets turn planned work into guided trips that are safe, efficient, and visible to the people running the operation. We build navigation inside the Samsara Driver app and the supporting experiences around it: mobile guidance on the road, session review for fleet managers, fuel-aware routing, and safety-focused improvements that show up where drivers actually drive. The team has a real foundation in production, and there is still a lot of greenfield ahead as we expand what navigation means for commercial fleets.

We are looking for a product-minded senior engineer who can own ambiguous problems end to end, make practical tradeoffs across surfaces, and ship work that holds up in the field. You will contribute across mobile, backend services, and web as needed, with judgment about what matters most for customers rather than a fixed layer of the stack. This is a deeply technical problem space that blends real-time data, thoughtful UX, and platform-wide coordination to create a seamless experience under challenging conditions, like poor connectivity, dynamic job schedules, and constantly changing routes.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US and Canada. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

You should apply if:
  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact - helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go.
  • You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
  • You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we're all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win - together.

In this role, you will:
  • Own Features End to End: Take full ownership of navigation initiatives from design through production rollout, including follow-up on quality, adoption, and customer impact after launch.
  • Deliver with High Engineering Standards: Write maintainable, well-tested code and hold a high bar in design and code review. Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted workflows, with sound judgment. Improve observability, testing, and the systems that keep navigation reliable in production.
  • Build Across the Product: Design and ship features across mobile, backend services, and web-driver navigation experiences, admin visibility, optimized routing, and safety-focused navigation capabilities.
  • Turn Ambiguity into Action: Clarify what you are building and why: learn from fleet managers and drivers, align with the product team on priorities, define success metrics, plan milestones, and raise risks and tradeoffs before they become surprises.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and partners in Maps, Telematics, and adjacent teams to deliver cohesive navigation experiences end to end.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ years of experience
  • Proven experience shipping customer-facing software in production across multiple surfaces (e.g. mobile, web, and/or backend services), with depth in at least one and the ability to contribute effectively in the others.
  • Comfortable using AI development tools with judgment in day-to-day engineering

An ideal candidate also has:
  • Experience building mobile applications, including React Native. At Samsara we also use Swift and Kotlin for native modules and in-cab experiences
  • Experience shipping and maintaining features over several years, demonstrating long-term ownership
  • Domain expertise in logistics, or industrial IoT, especially building mobile apps for drivers or field workers or familiarity with geospatial or mapping technologies.

Total Rewards

At Samsara, we build for the people who keep the global economy moving. We want owners, not passengers, which is why our rewards are designed to fuel high-impact builders. Our compensation program delivers above-market total compensation through a combination of base salary, performance-based bonus/variable pay, and equity (for eligible roles) in a high-growth public company. We meaningfully differentiate pay for our top performers, who have the opportunity to earn above-market compensation that can outpace the broader market over time.

Beyond compensation, we provide the foundations that enable long-term success: a flexible, employee-led remote model, a professional development stipend, comprehensive health and parental leave plans, and more. If you're ready to build for the long term and own the outcome, your journey starts here.

Flexible Working
