SummaryThis recruitment can be used to fill mutiple vacancies in the department Software Engineering is the central King County software development arm of King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT) and is responsible for setting software architecture and direction as well as the development, upgrade and maintenance of major software systems. The Software Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the BHRD Technical Team supporting the application development and data integration needs of the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) Behavioral Health and Recovery Division (BHRD). As a team member, you will support the existing portfolio of 28 applications that support the BHRD workforce and its partners, a user base representing ~200 internal users and ~400 external users.
BHRD's mission is to provide services and supports to individuals, families, and communities affected by mental illness and/or substance abuse or chemical dependence. In 2022 over 60,000 low-income individuals benefited from programs managed by the Behavioral Health and Recovery Division of King County. Although the programs are designed by King County, the majority of the clients are served by contracted community based behavioral health agencies. To learn more please visit
Job Duties - Develop critical and complex systems and applications using various languages, tools, and vendor managed platforms.
- Propose technical standards and procedures.
- Peer review teamwork products such as code and design specifications.
- Apply various languages and tools to join systems; maintain quality and integrity.
- Manage risk and security; propose improvements to existing risk management processes; and apply security awareness.
- Coach less experienced team members.
- Partner with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to design and develop solutions.
- Recommend and implement tools and technology to support internal development needs; identify, design, and implement internal process improvements.
- Maintain and protect sensitive data (HIPAA, CJIS).
- Serve as an escalation point for advanced and complex technical support, incidents, and service requests.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills - Experience with Microsoft .NET development tools (C#, ASP.NET, MVC, Core, Azure DevOps)
- SQL Server (T-SQL) programming experience
- Python programming experience
- Informix/Genero 4GL programming experience
- Experience with Unix/Linux scripting (ksh, perl, awk, sed, grep)
- Report development experience using Crystal Reports
- Report development experience using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
- Oracle PL/SQL programming experience
- PowerBuilder application development experience
- Relational database design and development experience
- Experience employing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL work
- Experience with behavioral health business and systems
- Experience with agile development methodologies
- Experience with medical electronic health record (EHR) systems
